Great idea. Probably the only way you will be able to get the ball back with an onside kick now with all these new rules.

We need to practice this.

They will probably outlaw this kick in the offseason or sooner so we need to take advantage of this now.

The success rate of any onsides kick has always been low. The new rules make the chances of recovering one even lower. I don't see how using a drop kick increases those chances. Seattle basically tried the same thing against Dallas in the playoffs last season.

They took away kickoffs, took away returns and now the onside kick. It's a joke at this point and if that kick is any teams best opportunity then they already lost. Why bother kicking off? It's a formality strictly for show.

In theory what the Ravens and what Seattle did last year can work, and is probably the best way to do it. The problem is easier said than done.

The idea is to drop kick it high, not 30 yards down field, but 10-15 yards giving your team enough time to clash with the receiving team before the ball comes down. Same idea as before when they had a running start and kicked it into the ground causing the ball to shoot up high.

The receiving team can just signal for a fair catch. The coverage team can't interfere with him. As you said, easier said than done.
