Listening to the local sports show and they had the new GM of the Calgary Stampeders on the air. He's made all the trips to the recent bowl games - Senior Bowl, Las Vegas Bowl, East-West game etc.. According to what he reported, the word among all the various scouts was that Leinart was scheduled to have minor shoulder surgery early in the year, and when they went in to clean it up, they found more damage that what was originally thought. Not career altering damage, but enough damage that Matt would not have been able to throw at the Combine. If unable to do so, it was likely that he would have dropped to possibly the #5 through #10 pick instead of a clear cut #1. For this reason, and not his love of college life, he decided to come back to school and try to be the #1 pick in 2006.
Anyway, these scouts - CFL, NFL etc are all connected, and this story seems at least a plausible reason, or a more plausible reason for Leinart staying in school.
Just an FYI
