The reality of these receivers

I am dissapointed that it is really starting to look like a trade isnt going to happen for a big time receiver. However, i really cant blame the cardinals for saying no to trading Boldin. Think about it in reverse. Would you trade away Boldin for a 1st round pick in this awful draft?
Honestly this draft is flat out weak. I dont think i would trade Roy Williams or Boldin for a number 15 pick in the first round. Why would they? Who is available that can provide the type of impact we already know they have?

Now the lions are not really smart for keeping a player that is just going to leave in a year anyway. Of course they could put a franchise tag on him next year and keep him for 2 more years.

As far as Chad Johnson goes. The more i hear about his situation the less i like him. If a player is crying about money then we know we can pay him and he will stop crying. Now Chad has turned on his QB. Now Carson palmer to me seems like Aikman in many ways. I dont feel good about a player that turns on his team like that. Contracts are a different situation. But he isnt wanting money. He just wants "respect". Or at least his definition of respect.

Anquan Boldin has finally asked to be traded. But Arizona has no desire to trade him. I dont know why he is asking out of arizona. Does he have a problem living in Fitzgeralds footsteps? Well we have TO and Romo. He isnt going to be getting much attention here either.

Now we have philadelphia and washington wanting top receivers. Great. They just drove the market up. If that matters anyway since it seems like the only receiver that may be possible to get is RW. So now you will have 3 teams in the same division all pushing to trade for 1 guy that the organization says isnt available. Sounds like a disaster looming.

Forget about trading for a veteran WR. It is such a long shot.

Dallas is capable of drafting a WR who can contribute this year. This player can be found in the 2nd round so if Dallas trades out of #28 they can conceivably target a Doucet or Nelson who have potential to become primary receivers.

At least Owens never turned on his QB.

Are you saying that with sarcasm?

If yes then you may want to check your facts. McFlabb actually turned his back on Owens when TO and Drew Rosenhaus called the eagles management out for giving him a sucker contract. They tried to work out a new contract in philly before everything went down. They tried many times. Mcnabb has always been the guy in philly that carries alll the weight. He came out while owens was trying to get a new contract and said Westbrook deserves a new deal. And westbrook got one. His primary target, TO, who was selling more jersey's and winning more fans over than McFlabb was left on an island by his QB.

Draft day could suprise us. I dont think we have heard the last of these WR's and their possible destinations.

Out of the three
  1. Roy Williams
  2. Chad Johnson
  3. Anquan Boldin
I think 1 & 2 end up on other teams... in that order.

Yeah, I've got absolutely no problem with drafting a WR somewhere in the first two rounds. I'd rather get a rookie than overpay (anything more than a #1 + a late round sweetener) for a proven vet.

There is this widespread assumption that a rookie WR won't make a meaningful contribution during his rookie year. While this may be true for most NFL teams, there is some reason to believe that things could be different in Dallas.

Dallas offers the perfect kind of situation for a high talent rookie WR (above average to excellent players at virtually all positions on offense, a very well respected WR coach, etc.).

A proven vet WR would be better than a rookie, but if the price for a vet WR is excessive, Jerry should be open to rolling the dice on a youngster.

One thing you are not taking into consideration is money. Look at what the Chiefs just did. They didn't want to pay Jared Allen, so they traded him. It wasn't a value based trade, strictly a money based trade. Boldin is going to want Fitz type money. Do you think the Cards are going to be willing to do that? I don't.

Not sure Chad Johnson ends up getting traded but wouldn't be surprised if Williams does. The Lions need defensive players badly and an extra 1st and a defensive player (potential starter for them) may be enough to pull it off. That would eliminate the Commanders from the hunt since they have no players to dangle from the defensive side of the ball. The Cowboys and Eagles have a better shot in that case.

Philly can offer the Lions their #19 in this draft plus Lito Sheppard for Williams and a 3rd. Or Dallas can offer #22 or #28 and Spears or Ayodele or Carpenter for Williams. That way the Lions can get a defensive starter and a potential starter with pick #19 from Philly or #'s 22 or 28 from Dallas. Add that to whatever they get at #15 and in the 2nd round and the Lions would come out a very improved team overall.

Just my two pennies.

I hear you and you could be right.... but... at some point I think Marv has to let it go.

The upside = Marv makes his point.

The downside = Chad sticks around destroying that team... things are bad enough already. Even Whosyourmama said Chad needs to go?

:starspin I agree. I seriously doubt the Cards will be willing to pay "both" Fitz and Boldin the type of money that Fitz just got. So it may be that Boldin could/will be traded, and they would get something for him rather than just see him signing with another team, the Cards get nothing for him when he leaves. I'm not necessarily saying that I expect we will get Boldin or Williams, but due to financial matters, it could happen though.

You're right. The only reason I think they are taking this stance is because of the cap ramifications. If he had a year left on his deal and there was no big cap hit, Johnson would have been shipped out of town months ago.

Oh, OK. Next up, try to spin the Jeff Garcia thing. This should be fun. Let me guess, he really IS gay.

It's all going to depend on who's on the board when the Boy's pick. The Lions need DL and RB help. Say they select DE Harvey with the 15th pick. They still haven't gotten the RB help they need. If Stewart is on the board at our 22nd, watch for them to make the trade.

You can bet the Lions and Bungholes are trying to get more for their receivers because Dallas, Philly and the Skins are all interested. When inter-division teams get in a bidding war early, the price can be high. However, if they wait until draft day, they'll come down a little if a player is there that they want when we select.
