they really were 5years technically because a year were left on the old deal.
So that's the sticking point for the Joneses on 5 years. They couldn't extend him early like the other QB's, this is like some crazy Netflix series. The Prescott Negotiations, Season 3.

All comes down to options, if not Prescott, then what QB do they get? Watson and Wilson are for teams with an open window and that is not the Cowboys, they're still building the defense with a permanent Under Construction sign up.

The more you look at this situation the more it makes sense to Draft a guy like Mac Jones and sign Dalton for a couple of years to bridge the gap while you work on the defense. Dak at what he is demanding is someone who hinders the ability to keep and add talent via free agency.

Right, if they would've extended him before his old deal was up, they would've gotten him much cheaper. it's why folks say they blew this deal.

Dak was Garretts QB. MM isnt sold on him. If he was he'd have been extended by now. Its very noticeable how everything changed when MM came on board. Went from Cowboys trying to extend to Dak and his agent banging their heads on a brick wall - getting no response to proposals and, as we've seen on CZ - a PR campaign to get Dak signed. Desparation stuff.
The lack of response was from Prescott's agent according to the reports. He has effectively used silence in his strategy.

I doubt the Jones envisioned a situation where the QB and his agent set a fixed end date of a contract because they want two bites at the Apple. The problem here is that you have a demand that continues to shorten your window.

According to Prescotts PR team.......

Judge people by what they do, not what they say. The team didnt extend Dak before last season. There is no evidence of the team trying to sign Dak now and the fact is he isnt extended.

Aikman not accurate?

You're joking right?
He’s just showing the hypocrisy that goes rampid
For real. Heard the same thing about Zeke and Tank's agents giving them bad advice. Did they? Nope. That's just hope posting from the nervous nellies.
exactly. Them boys eating good off the Jones’s and will continue to do so. They lucky these contracts aren’t guaranteed.

If we base it in what they do...they’ve had plenty of chances to get rid of Dak and haven’t.

Why not? What have they got to lose?

It is not like with Prescott they're going to the Big Dance and without him they're not. This team is at least a year, most likely two, of successful D building to think about getting there.

And therein lies the rub with this man as GM. He fails at the first and most important function of any GM in the NFL, to objectively and realistically ascertain the quality of his team, including coaching and players.

A good GM in constantly looking at what's missing; Booger is constantly trying to sell what isn't there.

Problem Solving 101, Step 1. Admit there is a problem and own it.

He's so busy trying to put a thong on this warthog, he doesn't realize how ugly it really is.

Then same criteria for Aikman & Romo. They too weren't elite. They were average. Were not accurate. Needed talent around them.

What? How freaking old are you? That is the most stupid statement on this forum, Aikman not accurate. You are so up Dak's butt that you cannot even see straight! I laugh at you and everything you stand for!

It's obvious that you're not a Prescott fan with your assumptions you made from the use of your crystal ball, crazy eight ball and your oujia board. There has been zero direct quotes from McCarthy stating that he has any reservations about Prescott, nor has there been any direct quotes from Stephen stating where they are on negotiations. One reason is Stephen doesn't negotiate through the media. This is really going to make you angry but I VERY seriously doubt that Prescott will be traded and only Prescott non-haters know they won't just let him walk.

Sheesh truth about your hero really does hurt huh?

That actually didn't come from them, it came from the Joneses. They cannot extend him as he is not under contract, they have to do a new one or tag him or just let him walk. Tag and trade won't work with his agent without prior agreement in place.

it shouldn't have matter what they thought, you knew he was your Qb and they said that for 3 years, you don't let his contract run out, or wait until it run out. You extend your guy, like they did Zeke. you wouldn't be dealing with this.

2 years is a very optimistic window. I’d say more like 4 years and that is if they hit on most of the defensive draft picks and stop wasting time with reclamation projects

Why don't you let the other guy fight his own fight instead of sticking up for a dumb statement. However, I do know that birds of a feather stick together. How embarrassing. You going to invite him over for a cocktail now? smfh

If the reports are fact, it is now a 3 year deal. They wanted a 5 year deal last year and his agent is counting the tag year as year 1 of a 4 year deal, which is all he wants. From the get go, Todd France has been pointing to 2024 as a FA year for Prescott. He doesn't seem to want to come off that.

If that's the case, they're better off tagging him and making other plans past 2022.
Agreed, we need a long term plan at QB and if Dak does not want to be it, get what you can for him now..
