The Reoccurring Theme That IMO Best Describes Dallas' Defense

They're always chasing!

It seems that they're a step behind and rarely are the ones taking the fight to the dog. Unfortunately, it's not just an anomaly of preseason, but has been the status quo, and regrettably, appears is going to remain so.

A 6-10 season would be my prediction, if I had to make one today.

I'm taking a patient approach. I still have to see Melton and McClain together manning the A gap.

I can understand the frustration, the top 3 DT's (McClain-Melton-Okoye) with most potential haven't played a snap.

I have noticed it too, but I do think it large part it is a scheme thing. This defense is built on being reactive, not proactive, like an attacking 34 would be. The players are being coached to sit back while the play develops and then attack the ball.

I think you're asking a great deal of Okoye. If he is even top-5 DT than I will be shocked. There is a reason, more than his illness, that he is considered a huge bust.

That huge bust still has more potential than any other 3DT we have outside of Melton.

What's gonna change in the next 2 weeks to change what you've probably been saying all preseason?

Other than hopefully getting some players back from injury...which appears to be less and less likely...probably not much.

And for the record. I try to reserve my overall opinion until at the minimum, until after PS game 3, but if it walks like a duck etc etc...

Based on what?

Apparently someone else has shown more potential that I'm missing. Our FO is showing how much faith they have in everyone else. For them to wait out his healing and recovery after his medical condition says a lot about our depth. Waiting on Brents decision so we can make room for him also indicates the level of faith we have on our Dline and he hasn't played a snap in over a year or so.

I think we have a better shot at Josh Brent producing something for us than Okoye.

By the time some of these players on defense like Okoye, Brent, Lawrence and Spencer can actually play a meaningful snap consistently for us we may be just about half way through the season.

IMVHO this staff would have gotten these players healed up and ready to contribute consistently for next years team and staff. Players like McClian and Minter probably won't be here next season on the front 4.

Then hopefully we can draft another talented pass rusher and viable starting LB with our 1st 2 picks.

Depending on what we do with Carr and how Mo looks we may also be deeply in the corner market.

Of course Church and JJ have to end our annual conversation we as fans have about the safety position.

The re-occurring theme with the Dallas defense? How about we start with injuries, eh?

Unfortunately, that seems to be a reoccurring theme too, and doesn't change the facts and/or results.

BTW, if injuries is your "starting" point, what are your middle and ending?

This front office has also been patient with Matt Johnson . For what ? I have no idea .

It has the real chance to be worse than last year. Last year, we at least had Hatcher having a career year.

6-10 is where I had them in May. I see no reason to change that.

This is a bad football team being coached in a really bad environment.

I believe he could as well at the 1DT. Saying Okoye has more potential than what I'm seeing isn't saying much about Okoye. I just wanted to point out that he does have more potential from what I've seen thus far. Counting on production from Okoye is very troubling. I just hope Melton can give us a good season there.

I'm confused about the people dogging the defense. The first teamers have looked solid the last two outings. Is it just that people expect the defense to be bad, so they refuse to acknowledge when it's not?

Like I've said before, I'll be patient with this group since we still haven't gotten a snap out of Lawrence, Melton and McClain.

What does any of that have to do with my question? I didn't ask you how our DL depth is.

You said Okoye has more potential than any other 3T on the roster. I said based on what. If you can't answer the question I understand, because it's not true.

The fact they're willing to wait on Brent is just as indicative of Okoye as waiting on Okoye is on the rest of the DL. Also, its been stated and re-stated add infinitum, that they were going to stand by Okoye through his recovery, regardless of whether he would ever even be able to play again. It wasn't a personnel decision, it was a humanitarian decision.

So, I ask again, what has Okoye shown that indicates he is the more talented than any other 3T on the roster?
