Philadelphia and Arizona are playing in the NFC Championship game. 2 9-win teams.

A lot of it just depends on luck.

You make your own luck.

The Cowboys chances for a Super Bowl win next year are better than 1 in 32. I believe that.

I wouldn't be shocked if they had a great year; I wouldn't be shocked if they imploded and didn't make the playoffs.

I just want them to win a playoff game to get that monkey off of their back. A playoff win is a realistic goal for next season's team.

If that make me an optimist, so be it.

Before we were known as America's Team, we were known as Next Years Champions.

Those off seasons were just as painful. Trust me. That nickname.....oh man that nickname.

But those "wait'll next year" speeches were finally answered.

I understand your frustration. But don't give up hope. Ever.

I remember those days well. But this is different. Back then, it was a young team that was learning..and it was a team that actually DID win some big games...for example ,in order to blow the Super Bowl vs the Colts, they had to win playoff games to get there

But for me, the biggest difference is that back then rosters held together for a decade at a time....there was no player movement...there weren't rules which assued "parity"...in fact, in that version of the NFL, you could "wait til next year". Today, if you've got a talented team, you better win now because chances are, that roster won't be together long.

That's the biggest sin with how this team has performed in recent years...a talented roster blew some great opportunities...and that's not a good thing in todays' NFL.

Until proven otherwise you may as well call this team the Dallas Bengals.

It goes with the territory. It's called blind hope. Back when we finished 5-11 several people posted that since the Rams had just gone from 5-11 to the Super Bowl that there was no reason we couldn't. What happened? We went 5-11 again. And then again.

And now, with Jerry running things the way he did in the years before Parcells came to town, there's a better chance this team sees 5-11 again before they see a Super Bowl.

It's a joke the way Jerry tore down the dynasty of the 90's. And now he's in the process of trying to tear down what Parcells put together.

What the hell are you talking about???

I dont know if you have been keeping up on current events, but Parcells won JACK in his 4 yrs here.

2 times we got a wildcard and were one and done.
2 tims we did not even make the playoffs.

What the hell was put together that is being torn down now???

I see JACK that Parcells put together, but thats just me.

Edit: If your argument is that Tuna upgraded the talent level, I will give you that. However, almost all the good players acquired during the Parcells era are signed to long term contracts, so how can that be torn down???.............We won JACK with Tuna, no way to sugar coat it.

Its been within reach for the last 3 years... those opportunities dont just present themselves.

  • We could have stole one in 2006 = Romobobble.
  • We were supposed to close the deal on "Unfinished Business = Crayton Brain Fart
  • We were favored this year = Colossal Failure on MANY fronts.

Yeah, and we got plenty of fans like you too.

So called "fans" who bury their head in the sand, and say NOTHING besides "ALL IS WELL, ALL IS WELL, ALL IS WELL"!!!! Thats what GM and Circuit City did the last few years, and look what that got 'em?

You wanna' turn a blind eye to what's going on and employ what Tony Robbins taught you about "just believe", you have at it. Good luck. Us REAL fans, fans who love the Dallas Cowboys, will remain honest and pragmatic about the state of affairs.

You're like a parent with a problem child who refuses to see a problem or do anything about it. Then the child ends up in prison on a 5-15 year wrap, and the first thing everyone says is "where the hell were the parents???"

So called "fans" like you don't care about winning. All you really care about it your "Cowboy fan identity", and no one is allowed to speak of the Cowboys in less than glowing terms, no matter what the "state of the union" is. Which, of course, makes you a fool.....................

:hammer:

There's no getting through to the self-appointed thought police. They're allowed to praise Jerry or the team without incident but god help you if you don't rise to their level of fan "purity." I kind of envy them, though. I mean, life must be so much easier in a state of blissful denial. You just shut off all critical thinking skills and yell "Go team!" Of course, it's this kind of stupidity that emboldens Jerry to keep doing what he's doing, but to them, Jerry is the team. Go figure.

And all you do is complain. You accomplish nothing, you have no desire to accomplish anything - you just want to complain.

Doesn't matter if they win or lose, you complain. You think it shows you are not a homer but in reality it only shows that you use entertainment to make yourself miserable. Dallas winning the Super Bowl would be the worst thing for you- you'd have to shut up for a week or so. You're as big a joke as Galloway and all the rest.

Again, YOU'VE HAVEN'T EARNED A THING WITH ALL YOUR COMPLAINING.

Except our pity.

And there's no getting past you pathetic whiners. You can't even leave one optimistic thread alone.

We've talked a lot here about a "cancer" but let me tell what a cancer really is, is someone who won't leave the rest alone to even think that things aren't as bad as you think they are. It's a pathetic poster that has to interject their negativity in every thread. And when (as usual) they have no point to make, they drop down to calling people "blind homers" or "TO fans and NOT Cowboy fans".

That's a cancer, someone who drops their pathetic negativity everywhere they go- trying to convince the optimists that everything is lost.

You're the cancer.

You're the cancer.

Listen Dorothy,

Go rally the Tin Man, the Scarecrow and the Lion and go skipping down your yellow brick road. "We're off to see the Jerry, the wonderful Jerry of OZ......."

If you're an alcoholic, they say the FIRST thing you have to do is RECOGNIZE YOU'RE AN ALCOHOLIC!! The opposite of that is called DENIAL!
And you'll never correct the problem if you're in denial...........

It's not "negativity" if you wake up tomorrow morning, running nose, eye's all puffy, and you're coughing your head off, and you go to the medicine cabinet looking for Advil and some Alka Seltzer Plus Cold medicine! That's called "fixing the problem" and "looking to cure the virus".

Burying your head in the sand and refusing to see or hear ANYTHING being wrong with your beloved Cowboys is naive, simplistic, and dangerous. Or even thinking that "we're really pretty close", close isn't good enough. "Close" is for the Saints and the Seahawks of the world. You've got "Talk to the hand" disease.................You're whistling through the graveyard at midnight. We're not a "tweak" away, or an "adjustment or two" from winning a SB.

We're a HEAD COACH, A GM, AN OWNER, AND A COACHING STAFF away from a SB!! Maybe even a player or six away from a SB TOO! THAT'S not a "tweak". That's a lot.......................

This from a cheapshot artist who serially defames fellow posters as "fake fans" who should leave the forum and root for other teams. Not gonna happen, Mary. While we're on the subject of "raining on people's parades," shall I dig up Cowboyprincess's post-Ravens game thread to show how graciously you deal with dissent? If you want to make yourself useful, stick your head a little further up Jerry's caboose and tell us what he had for lunch.

LOL

I know I don't NOT deal well with people bashing MY team. So what's your point?

That is certainly not the intended premise of starting this thread.

At the risk of being redundant it is rather about trying to back people off of apparent extreme positions such as we'll never win a playoff game or SB because...
  1. Romo is too...
  2. TO is a cancer... no longer a top 5 WR...
  3. Our players have no passion, pride, leadership etc...
  4. Garrett, Wade, Coach X... blah, blah, blah...
  5. This org cannot win a SB with Jerry as GM...
  6. etc...
Each of the above and others have some level of truth to them. Even myself as an optimist believes that.

I am only pointing out that every past champion has had a list of imperfections that could have been fatal to their chances. Yet, somehow collectively they had enough ingredients in spite of their shortcomings to win it all.

Does that mean coaches, talent, preparation, commitment, strategy, leadership etc have no bearing on who will win the SB? Of course not. It just means it needn't be perfect. Its the sum of the whole that's important nota single ingredient.

I am trying to back people off of extreme statements that proclaim we have no chance because of one particular ingredient(s).

I am not suggesting criticisms and upgrading isn't appropriate or makes one less of a fan. Just trying to keep it balanced and remind everyone that the ingredient(s) they are so passionate about, be it Garrett, Wade, TO, Romo, Jerry or whoever is NOT definitive by itself.

This also is not about "hey any of 32 teams has a chance." I am talking about a team that was 13-3 and the #1 NFC playoff seed just 1 year ago. Most of those 13-3 ingredients are still in place. Heck we are probably even more talented overall now.

If someone wants to pick this clarification apart too, I suspect they'll still do it. I suppose someone will take my 13-3 reference and equate it to Wade's excuse making. Have your fun.

But hopefully, for those that truly want to discuss and even gain collective balance and understanding from one another this discussion will help us stay off the extremes.
