They may have tried. That's asking a lot.I would have liked to trade Pickens for a Number 1 or a 2 and 3.

The one thing no one talks about is micahs bad back. He is taking pain injections just to play.I don’t get why everyone is bringing up Q’s age as if it’s a bad thing. When we traded Micah everyone in the media and on this board talked about how he was just 26 years old and in the prime of his career. Quinnen is 27 years old and that’s an issue. I’m not a mathematician but that’s only a 1 year difference. So if Quinnen has to stay productive for the next couple seasons for this to be a good trade and he’s 27 then the same should be said for Micah in Green Bay who is 26.
These trades are not meant to save this season. It's also much harder to make these trades before the season, or early in the season. We have 3 wins after 9 games. Mathematically a 7% chance of making the playoffs. It’s over . There is no season to save. You lost any last gasp hopes last night.
Throw in a brutal schedule after LV with Phil, KC , Det, Minn and LAC in consecutive weeks. That’s probably 4-10-1. With possibly a couple crap meaningless games end of year against Wash and NYG nobody will care about. 6-10-1 MAYBE…
This team is washed up. Even this offense we can’t count on but if AZ can stop it these playoff contenders coming will . And run roughshod over this defense + Williams.
These trades were needed weeks ago and or before the season. The AZ loss makes these a waste of time this year. Total waste of assets to prop up the season.
So we basically only have one1st round pick plus Williams less a 2nd rounder for Micah. Bravo Jethro. Just when we thought it couldn’t get worse. You crapped the bed again. Pitiful!!!
No way. No single player outside of a top franchise QB is worth three wins in nine games.Had Parsons been kept the team would likely be around 6-3
the one nice thing about these trades is that they are her for the next two years. so perhaps there is push for this year. lets peak at the right time at the end of the year. but also we still have two first rounders next year and can add more to the defense. the key is going to be resigning Pickens and Tagging him is a legit option. We have 3 wins after 9 games. Mathematically a 7% chance of making the playoffs. It’s over . There is no season to save. You lost any last gasp hopes last night.

This team aims for the middle. They have for decades now. Jerry used to blow up free agency like he was Steinbrenner only to find out that the salary cap was real and difficult to manage. Now they just try to hit the dart board instead of the surrounding wall. Does not always work out though. Two games below 0.500 and they make a win now trade move. Everyone on the board saying this is for next season. Then why the rush at the mid season deadline instead of the off-season? Next season becomes the all or nothing year. If the draft in 2027 shows up and the Cowboys have given a top five or ten pick to the Jets….We have 3 wins after 9 games. Mathematically a 7% chance of making the playoffs. It’s over . Why do people listen to the haters and the "dumb as a rock" Dallas Media, especially the Dallas twitter idiots. We have 3 wins after 9 games. Mathematically a 7% chance of making the playoffs. It’s over . There is no season to save. You lost any last gasp hopes last night.

I like a lot of what you say but I'll be honest...I don't think Jerry ever has a concrete plan and agree with a few things I've heard....the LB trade was a GM pick where you are trying to go cheap for someone that is an upgrade. I think the Williams pick was an owner splash pick to show people that things aren't lost after the Cards loss. I think that is how Jerry functions. I think everything you said looks like a great plan....I just don't think Jerry planned it that way. Cheers my man!The QW trade was for the future, not just this season.
I think your dislike for Jerry is clouding your objectivity. I can see Jerry's plan pretty clearly now and its not actually that bad of a plan if I am being honest.
And you know I am not a resident homer here, I have been one of the most vocal critics of Jerry and the Cowboys for a long while, but the plan they are following is not actually that bad. It crystal clear now that the plan is to build the defense to average level while the offense is still one of the best in the league and should remain a top end unit for the next couple of years. You have a vet QB that has played fairly well this season, a good RB finally, a young offensive line you pumped 3 first round picks in, and a good set of WRs assuming they can extend Pickens or tag him.
You just need your defense to be average and you should win the majority of your games. So, how do you turn the worst defense into an average 18-20 range defense? Well, you add not one, but two probowl DTs, one that is arguably top 3 in the league. You stock pile multiple 1st round picks (Cowboys still have 3 of the 4 after the Parson's trade) and you have the cap space to add some free agents or extend current players (Cowboys have about $40 million in cap space, I think that is the 2nd most cap space in the NFL).
This is what Jerry meant when he said trading Parsons was the best way to help Dak get to a SB (or at least a conference championship game). Keep the offense intact to remain one of the best in the league, which statistically they still are despite their record. Then use the draft capital and cap space gained from the Parson's trade to just get the defense to average level, that is really all that is needed if your offense is top 5 in yards and points.
So, you see you have to look at the big picture of what they are doing and it goes far beyond just this season. These are moves to set the team up to compete for the next several years, this year is irrelevant....................that is the plan, and like I said, its not that bad of a plan by Jerry.
Somebody said that Jerry's announcement was actually for Wilson, not Williams. Maybe Williams became available suddenly with the Jets fire-sale and the Cowboys thought it was too good to pass up. I mean Gardner was just traded to the Colts. So it wasn't a plan per say, the stars just aligned "accidentally".Parsons is 18 months younger and he has played 2 seasons less in the NFL.
Defensive tackles typically age well so I'm told - hopefully Williams will not regress too quickly.
I suspect the move was made for the wrong reasons - to appease fans for trading away Parsons which was arguably due to bruised egos.
Had Parsons been kept the team would likely be around 6-3 if you look at the close losses and if Williams was brought in at that point then I think pretty much everyone would be on board with this trade as it's a win now move.
As it is, this season is over so it's a bit of an odd trade to me.
