Watching the second (or third, but I think second, the drive where Noah Brown had a catch) offensive drive last night, the coaching staff seemed to finally call some unpredictable plays and got creative, even in 12 personnel. The offense marched the ball all the way down to the 10 and then stalled, but that drive looked promising. After that, absolutely nothing. Just nothing. Just total reversion back to being super predictable (or stubborn, depending on your POV), sans the few play action rollouts that worked a few times. I just don't get it.
I don't mean this sarcastically, but what does Garrett do in terms of play calling? Does he tell Linehan "We are running here"? Does he go as far as to say "we are running to the strong side here with Morris" and then Linehan calls the specific X's and O's? Or is Linehan making all the offensive calls with Garrett having a veto if he chooses? Does Linehan meet with the offense at halftime and make offensive adjustments while Marinelli does the same with the defense?
The buck stops with Garrett. No question about that. I am just wondering where the uninspired play calling/ scheming is coming from.
