The shear number of penalties called was not just in our game

My apologies to the guy I stole this from........

Here's a gragh showing week two penalties called for the entire league. Obviously there is was some sort of edict passed down from the league to the officials to call it close this week.

BTW, sheer not shear

I cant be the only one who thinks this. But watching EVERY team in the NFL right now is disheartening. Its clear that these teams dont do enough to prepare in the preseason and I think its because of these new stupid practice rules they must abide. No teams look GREAT and I think its making injuries worse which is exactly why they put the rules in place TO HELP REDUCE INJURIES! Case number 1: Adrian Peterson is beyond RUSTY and then add on his 3 fumbles yesterday! It seems like he should have been playing in the preseason to knock off that rust!

Ridiculous! I can't recall another time when the refs have been more visible. I HATE that there are so many penalties and that they seem to get so many calls wrong (and how much it slows the game down). It literally ruins a fan's enjoyment of the game.

Interesting graph, but one game having 26 penalties will skew the league average. Let's see how next week compares. Is it just this crew of officials? Or a league-wide trend? Time will tell.

This graph is all the NFL games in week 2 minus tonight not just the Cowboys game. The only thing that will change the blue line is if there are a load of penalties in tonights game. Next weeks games will have nothing to do with the week two data.

Got to slow down all these no huddle offenses, losing too much commercial revenue.

My point was two-fold. 1). This game alone had 26 penalties. That drives the league average abnormally high. 2) the reason I referred to next week is that it is too soon to determine if this stat is a trend, or an aberration. Next week should give an indicator of that.

Read that the Cowboys were the 3rd NFL team since 1952 to win a game with 18 penalties. Props to the defense.

peterson only had 2. one lost and one recovered.

I watched that whole game he had three and if only 2 show up in the box score I have no idea why. I just went back and looked at the box score. I have no idea why he was credited with only 2 fumbles. Weird!

If you look at the number of penalties called each game below, the Cowboys game is tied for most, but even of you drop our game down below 20 penalties, the average for week two is still very high. It just seems odd to me that over the past 5 years, there has not been a week even close to this week. I don't have the stats, but I am guessing we won't find too many weeks in the last five years where every single game had double digit penalties accepted. I am theorizing that this not a coincidence and that the league made a concerted effort to call the games close this week. If I am correct, why? If this is a trend, I think they are shooting themselves in the foot. We all saw the how ugly a game with 26 penalties was, most fans are not going to tolerate this over an extended period of time.

The players wanted to basically outlaw training camp in the CBA, and they succeeded.

This is the result. Preseason happens in September now.
