23 or 24 picks ahead too. It didn't hurt the first 3 years though.

and now, one guy looks like he's headed to the hall of fame and the other looks like he may not find a job that "makes sense for his family"

On the lunchbreak today Nick Eatman told the story on how we landed arguebly the best TE in football in the 3rd rd.

Witten was projected as a 1st rd pick as we know. Well we wanted him at pick #37 and we were gonna take him but there were 4 or 5 TEs that they liked but no other centers. So they decided to take Al Johnson and get a TE in the 3rd rd. They couldn't belive Witten was on the board at the 69th pick. They got a call from San Fran about the pick. So the Cowboys ask them well who are you considering, they said Jason Witten. The Cowboys said no thanks and the rest is history. If that isn't luck than what is.

The 49ers actually told the Cowboys who they wanted? That was dumb.

Having said that, I too wanted the Cowboys to draft Witten, possibly in the first. Definitely in the second. I had to leave to attend my son's T-ball game. When I returned, I discovered the Cowboys had drafted Jason Witten. :beatit:

That's AWESOME. I love not only that we got him (He was the one guy I just absolutely wanted them to draft that year) but to know that we got him and kept the Niners from getting him is absolutely one of the best things ever.

I remember the chat room. Some were wanting him in the first. Of course not with our first pick but if we could move back into the first.

When the second round rolled around the majority were typing his name as our selection hoping it would happen. No go.

I think if we would have passed on him in the third round we would have caused an internet shut down from that little chat room. :laugh2:

But when we did select him the chat room exploded, for some in more ways than one. :D

See I remember opposite.

When we drafted him there were a lot of people upset we didn't draft Lee Suggs out of Virginia Tech.

Thats who the majority of Cowboys fans wanted at the time.

Myself? Huge Witten fan when he was at Tennessee.

I'll never forget his overtime touchdown catch that I predicted right before it happened.

He fell to the 3rd round because he was such a puppy when he left Tenn.

It was the same year everyone fell in love with Dallas Clark and one other Tight End that I can't remember for some reason.
