The success of the run game has set up our offensive success

Just about everyone here was. Y’all weren’t even going to give them a chance to prove it one way or the other. I tried telling y’all but instead got relentlessly attacked for the wait and see I was preaching. No one’s even apologized which I knew wasn’t going to happen.
You never apologize to anyone for being wrong and being a jerk, why would you even ask for an apology to from anyone else?

I said the running game would be very good w/ Javonte being the bell cow. Where's my apology?

Agree - Our defense is still a pushover in the run game. We have to hope the young guys across this defense can develop both individually and as a unit. Their inability to stop the run will undercut our offense obviously.

The biggest problem with our defense IMO is a serious lack of talent. It will take some time to address that.
Just need a game wrecker at DT. They have outside rushers. However, it is up your face pressure that really bothers a QB.

No Pro Bowl DT since Jason Hatcher. I said that when they had Micah and D Ware (after they let Spears, Canty, and Ratliff go).

Have to admit, Williams has surprised me how hard he is running. Even when he gets tackled it seems he is going forward for extra couple of yards. I like his running style, and hope he doesn’t get hurt.

He is running himself out of Dallas should Jerry get stingy.
That was exactly how he ran his rook year before tearing up his knee. 3rd year removed, about the time when a player feels right.

And people wonder why I say Javonte Williams and Brandon Aubrey are more valuable to the Cowboys than Prescott!
The Cowboys could play well with another quarterback- perhaps even better.
But with Aubrey the Cowboys are in field goal range at the fifty, and Williams is gashing defenses and running with power.
They are both more valuable than Prescott.
Your post even reveals that.
You have to have both. Just a running game ain’t gonna do it. You need a quality QB like Dak to make it balanced. Common sense.

Well said dear old friend, @Bobhaze BH!

Remember though, our young, revamped and newly coached Oline is a big reason why our running game with Javonte Williams has been so effective. Both our starting and backup Olinemen have performed very well. When is the last time we have had a very good starting Oline along with very good backups? Since the mid-90s Super Bowl years?

Without this much improved Oline, Javonte Williams nor anyone else would be as productive running the football as they have so far this season. It all starts up front.

I was right there with you. I always maintained that Williams was essentially a younger version of pre-knee Zeke and that by sitting out the year with his knee injury he stood a better chance of coming back from it than Zeke who never really got his addressed. Just "tough guyed" his way out of football. Of course I will never forgive Mike McCarthy and Kellen Moore for that debacle either. Dude should have had the scope and sat out the obligatory 6-8 weeks. Had he done so he might still be playing.

But I digress. I am very pleased with what Javonte is doing .. It makes my heart smile every time he drags two tacklers for 3-4 extra yards when it looks like he should be stopped.

True love means never having to say, "Im sorry"

Its tearing my heart out seeing breakups over a misunderstanding.
Yeah, my EX-wife never said she was sorry for her cheating BS. She never owned it (thus the EX part of her description). No misunderstandings.

She missed out on the last 30 years of goodness which is me. Rocky was man enough to come clean with an apology. Real men show good character. Thanks Rocky! Cheer up shabazz . . . all is well in Cowboy Town !

It would be in the best interests of the offense to at least see if Blue can be a viable back up this year so when Williams taps his helmet to come out for a play or a series the offense doesn’t go one dimensional .

Without the Cowboys surprisingly good run game so far this year, this offense would not be ranked #1 in total yards. The run game is the engine for the rest of the success we’ve had on offense.

I have come to believe that the run game is the secret weapon of the better NFL offenses. Passing still gets the most yards in the NFL but it’s the teams that can run the ball effectively that have the easiest time passing the ball.

Why? Because if the defense has to worry about the run game, it will cheat its safeties up for run support. Opening all kinds of passing lanes. If defenses don’t have to worry about the run game, their pass defenders can move back, making it harder to pass effectively. The better the run game, the easier it is on the pass game.

Here are some things that Coach Schottenheimer has done with the offense and the run game that have helped:
  • Making Dak take more snaps under center rather than in shotgun. If you have a good running game, this makes play action way better. Play action is not very effective in shotgun.
  • It’s always helps to have a workhorse back like Javonte Williams. He has been outstanding. (I was dead wrong about him)
  • Schotty has stayed committed to the run game unlike Big Mac, who had Dak in shotgun approximately 80% of the time and did not remain committed to the run game even when there were opportunities.
  • The success of the run game has allowed this team to take more shots down the field in the passing game. And Schotty hasn’t been afraid to take those shots.
Kudos to the coaches also for making adjustments with injuries to the OL.

One other point: One reason Dak is having such a good year is greatly aided by this running game. QBs that have a strong running game have a much better chance of opening up the entire bag of offensive possibilities.

Bottom line: Having a good running game is what sets the table for everything else we’ve done well on offense so far in 2025. Our future offensive success may depend on that running game.
Say it louder so the ones in the back can hear!

rewrote it all for you.

Cowboys continue tradition, beat bad teams.

everything else, sucks.

30 years

You are over thinking the post. However, you don't give up nearly 400 yards on the first drive. So with that statement I will go where you thought I did.

I look at the game as a Dallas Cowboys fan and not as an Arlington Jonesboys fan. The Cowboys defense made sacks and got turnovers from a team that gives up sacks and gives up turnovers. But the Jets still rushed for 144, had +380 total yds, a 100 yd rusher, a 100 yd receiver, and had possession of +38 minutes.

A win is a win but I don't want Arlington Jonesboys fans whining when a team does not give up sacks and turnovers and puts up that amount of yardage and time of possession then Dallas gets a lost which would be with those offensive stats. What have you guys been watching for the last 30 years and cannot figure this out by now.

A wise coach once said don't get too high off a win or too low after a lost. You beat the Giants and the Jest and played your buts off against the Packers for a tie. You play your schedule and beat what they put in front of you. They have put 1-4, 0-5, and 2-1-1. So get ready for the Panthers 2-3
You lost me at Arlington Jones boys comment.
Which means you are still making excuses why the other team lost.
Stop the Jones hate and look at it as football.

Klayton Adams is truly a star OC. Hold on to him like grim death, JJ.

One of the best things about Schottenheimer offense is that he can run or pass from the same formation. That keeps defensive players guessing.

I heard him saying that in almost every set, he has a run or a pass available.

Just a little more perspective to what you’re saying.
Mahommes has been the leading rusher in 4 out of 5 games this season.
They’ve lost 3 of them!

Yep, and its a combination of: Schott. run game, legitimate WR threats and passing options that gives Dak the weapons (even if the O-line can bend on pass-rush). If you combine ALL of these you cant just sit in 2-High scheme and force the issue.

My big concern is that Jerry will try and make 'cuts' from this Offense, to use on the Defense.......NO, Jerry, add dont reshuffle your resources.

Yep and that's the big(gest) plus on Javonte, possibly over the rest of the RB room, who are more 'specialised' and more predictive.

Just a bit of levity my friend.
