OXNARD, Calif. – In what is probably as close to a managerial mea culpa as anyone will get from Jerry Jones, the Dallas Cowboys owner acknowledged less than a year ago that in retrospect of a capsizing season, he “tried to get cute” with his backup quarterbacks. At the time, Brandon Weeden had cratered and Matt Cassel was headed for a cliff, taking the Cowboys’ playoff hopes with him. But Jones’ acknowledgement within that collapse left a faint long-term hope: Surely the Cowboys had learned a lesson about life without Tony Romo.

I heard they're in the process of looking for a way to clone Romo.

Saw this on Yahoo. Good read for those who subscribe to the Prescott and Showers will be fine group.
It lays out the feeling around people who follow the Cowboys pretty well. Problem is, we have backed ourselves into the proverbial corner now ...

How much better is Brian Hoyer than Brandon Weeden? Should we have passed on Zeke (who I believe we drafted to help Romo) so we could feel better about what happens if Romo goes down by taking Goff, Wentz or Lynch? I guess you could argue that we still could have had Zeke if we signed Hoyer and maybe a better running game could be the difference. But do you really think so?

Honest questions.

Sure it did. They know no matter who they put there it's over. So keep a rookie and showers.

About 90% of the teams in this league are royally screwed if their starter misses most of the season

I dont understand how anyone can read this article and not see how the FO shot itself in the foot here. You guys can be as sarcastic as you like, but Robinson laid it out pretty clearly that their off-season plan was just flat out wrong.
Now, as the article lays out, they are left scrambling to find someone other than Prescot or Showers to be the main backup.
Whats not to get here ?
Its not the Moore broken leg, it was the decision to risk steying with him at all. And, as he says - and ive been saying since we deafted Prescot. "Personel men like his skill set, and he may be Romos eventual replacment, but he needs a few years to develop".
That is the crux of this problem.

Those here that want Prescott or Showers get reps in preseason, know that the CBoys will make a determination afterwards if they need to bring in a vet or not. They just want to see what they have in those guys 1st. Dak is gonna be on the 53. It comes down to Showers or a vet. If they feel Showers isn't ready, he goes to ps and they sign a vet when cuts are made.

Honestly, if they'd just come out and said "We're all in with Tony, we're going to devote resources into winning a championship with him and possibly finding a QB of the future so backup QB is not a priority for us." I'd have respected that.

I'm more in the camp of, if Tony goes down for any reason and we don't have him for the playoffs, we're not going to win the whole thing anyway, so we might as well get a better pick. But, Jerry was the one emphasizing his "mistake" and that backup was one of the highest priorities this season, if not #1. I actually didn't really agree with that for the reason above, and because even mediocre backups require a pretty hefty salary, but i can see the reasoning. If we signed a decent backup and won a championship, i'd be glad to admit i was wrong.

But, after all that talk, nothing of significance was done. A 4th rounder is a nice experiment for the future of the franchise, but on a scale of 1 to 10 of addressing the issue that's about a 2.

Now, the backup situation actually looks worse on paper than last year, even after Jerry's epiphany. Now, not to me, because you're all going to watch my boy Jameill ball out, but on paper it's worse.

I didn't really care either way, but feigning sincerity to the media realizing that you learned from your mistake, and then actually being worse, makes you look really, really stupid. It's kinda like Manziel telling the Browns he was cleaning up his act, then he skips practice and goes to a Casino in one of those fake nose/mustache disguises.

Come on, bro.

Romo or Kaaya next year (via inj. to Tony) is how I see it though Dak or Showers could surprise, etc. JG would earn a lot of respect from a lot of fans if he can develop Dak in the next two seasons but would still rather bring in a high pick to hedge our bets to be Romo's heir.
