I wonder how one becomes a "trade expert", would love to add that to my resume!?! Seriously though, unless bringing someone new in resulted in negatively affecting the great locker room chemistry we have going on, I'm all for taking a chance to improve the team and DL.[/QUOTE
Exactly, is there some kind of like "trade" certification you can get. I mean anyone can say they're a trade expert. Everyone who plays Madden thinks they're a trade expert.

Oh that easy! To become a trade expert just read the zone threads. That's how everyone here became experts - including myself lol

If we are looking to make a run, he certainly would give the D some pass rushing teeth.

If he could give us 2 years of pass rush while we draft and develop the longer term answer at that price, might be wise.
Been saying this over and over in thread after thread...I WANT WAKE (or Bears' Willy Young as a secondary option)...this is the time you do these types of moves...we should be positioning ourselves for December/January at this point...no pass rush can't be the reason we don't win the SB.

For the cheap price they paid, Atlanta made a good signing. Freeney, even with his 3 sacks, would arguably be our most productive pass rusher on 3rd downs.

It really was a no brainer signing.[/QUOTE
And he's playing limited snaps. He's a production beast

We really need to seize the opportunity we have this year. Post-2009 and 2014 are proof that long term success is not guaranteed in this league. Right now, you can count on one hand the number of fanbases that are happy with their teams play this year. This is a strange season where a lot of teams are struggling to play consistent quality football. Not the Cowboys. There is something magical going on here and the entire league knows it. This is the time to do a "Haley" deal to put us over the top. Go get Wake....if you're worried about the draft pick then get it back by trading one of our RBs to the Broncos who just yesterday lost CJ Anderson for the season.
Amen...this whole "we won't win SB anyways so going after a player like this is pointless" is frankly NOT an opinion I share AT ALL...we are RIGHT THERE THIS YEAR...shoot, even the 1992 team was being talked about as being a year away back then...we need to press this issue RIGHT NOW. I don't equate the Wake move (or for someone similar) as a Haley move, frankly...but more of a DWare move (Broncos) or, to put it in Cowboys' terms, like a Thomas Everett move. In other words, it's adding more water to the well as opposed to a major addition (we can do that in the draft). But that extra water will pay dividends towards a deep playoff/possible SB run. How people don't think that the NFC is there for the taking is beyond me!!! Let's do this!!!

I struggle with this question: how close are the Cowboys from the Super Bowl? Are we 1 player away. 2-3?

No team has impressed me in the NFC, with a little luck, I can see the Cowboys in the Super Bowl. Sure Seattle and Atlanta look good, but so do we.

Or.......we could not do stupid things.....
One old dude is not going to suddenly bolster our pass rush.

Stop gap at a position we have a big need at.

But taking into account the money and the fact that they passed on Freeney, I don't see it. They really think what they have is adequate.

Hope they are right but right now they are on pace for less sacks and pressures than last year's anemic output.
Eye test...is what you're seeing during the game showing you pass rush? With exception of Bengals' game, your last comment says it all. With the state of the NFC this year, we are an "above average" pass rush away from a potential SB run/win, IMHO. To me the compensation for a stout and consistent pass rusher (which Wake is when healthy) is on average about $10MM/year (on the low side of the range since I know we see some making in the teens). So being on the hook for $7MM for a couple of years doesn't seem that big a deal to me...if he performs at even "normal" output, that'll be a bargain. Not to mention, he's itching to be on a winner and get a ring so he comes in here super motivated (if you know what I mean ;)).

No way I trade DMac for a 6th round pick. He's more valuable than that just sitting on the sideline.
This team is making a push to be one of the heavy hitters in the NFL this year. Imagine Elliott hitting the rookie wall or suffering an injury, even an ankle sprain, that puts him on the shelf. Morris is okay, but he's slow. We would want DMac's speed to show up and his blocking and receiving from the backfield. If someone gives a 4th rounder, then I consider it.

The cowboys need to think smart, the team have almost everything to do a dinasty team, have a very good offense team, and the defense team its good, but needs just a little more to be dominant, and is improving in the area of pass rush, yes next year the cowboys can draft a DE to improve, but this year the cowboys have all to go to SB, they need to think in today, in the oportunity they have to improve a little more and dominate, with only improve the DE area, they need to take the risk and make trade or trades, I think, no more new players are needed or think in next draft players, they need to retain those who already are and make possible moves to create cap space and to hire those who already are going to end the contract. They need to get rid of players who will no longer be in a future short-term project.

That's what I am saying too, brah! This whole POV that we're not ready this year to win it is ludicrous when you look at the flawed NFC leaders...we should be worrying about beating Brady at this point as I think we can smoke most of the so-called NFC powers if we maintain on our current trajectory (particularly in terms of getting/keeping everyone healthy).

Unlike 2015, when we thought that we were a DE away from a SB run, we got Hardy in the offseason. Let me ask a question...if we had waited until about 6-7 games into the 2015 season, do you think we're signing Haley given the state of the team at that juncture? I don't think we do. This is the time (and circumstances) to make such a move. THIS IS OUR FREAKIN' YEAR!!! The NFC is there for the taking and setting ourselves up for playoff success should be our number 1 priority at this point...not ONLY worrying about next year.

No trading! this team is being built the right way we are on the doorstep of a 10-year run. Young quarterback in place young running back in place young offensive line and receivers just add a little defense in the draft and we're ready to go

Now if you want to trade away an extra running back or a quarterback for draft picks I'm all for it

So when we went on our run in the 90's, that was done solely through the draft? Jimmy didn't make any trades where he used draft picks for players??? hmmm...ok.

Ain't no "might be" to it...this is DEFINITELY WHAT WE SHOULD DO...you and I both know that pass rush is an essentially ingredient to being a championship caliber team (I can't think of a time I recall a SB winner who didn't have one to lean on)...this is the time to make a move. Pats would most definitely do it.

Never happen but if Kawann Short is on the block like is reported, he'd give the pocket a nice push.
