There was this draft, see? And the Cowboys drafted a torrid, thundering threesome of Ware, Spears and Canty.

Of the three, Ware is the supreme man defending the line..

Of the three, Spears and Canty are supreme at being almost adequate, at times. That is not to say they stink. They have the skills but they still have not blossomed in their positions.

I wonder how long Parcells will take before giving Jason Hatcher and Jay Ratliff a few more downs.

Because, IMHO, they'd be just as good or better. At any rate, something to motivate Canty and Spears a bit.

1 out of 3 isn't bad (so far). But, oh, man, it could have been a blockbuster year in the draft.

Yeah, Vick got rid of that ball so fast when he saw Canty coming at him, Vick didn't care who caught it.

The point was that overall, Spears and Canty have not broken out as has Ware.

But thanks for your input, big guy.

The play was designed to allow pressure, Dick V. even commented about it during the replay. Canty and Spears have been invisible on passing downs all year long.

Spears and Canty will put it all together eventually.

I hope you're right because if they do, this defense goes to another level, especially if we can give Ware another consistent pass rushing threat on the other side.

Maybe, that's because they're standing on the sidelines during passing downs.

Canty is a run stopping DE. Spears was a solid pass rusher at LSU, but injuries and the 3-4 seemed to slow him. He's just not 100% into things mentally I think.

Be it of his own choosing or just not too bright, who knows.

The depth is there and a lot of guys will fight for a starting job. The competition will breed a pass rush eventually I bet.

So will another edge rusher opposite Ware or better yet, Zimmer with some insight or a new DC.

I know they come out for the nick defense, but they need to generate some sort of pressure when we aren't in the nick, and so far, they aren't coming close.

How many times does in need to be pointed out that it is our scheme that is holding them back. Even though we switched from a 4-3 to a 3-4, Zimmer kept the same ole read run first and then react. This slows them up right at the snap and allows the OL who already knows its a pass to gain superior position on them. We never stunt or do anything to put them in a better position to get a sack and then they come out of the game regularly on obvious passing downs. Explain to me how they are going to put up good sack #'s in that type of situation. I would expect both of them to want to leave when they become free agents unless we change our scheme. They will never live up to their potention in this scheme and will never become stars and command huge paydays. Put either one in San Diego's scheme where they rush the passer first and stunt almost every down and both would be big stars already in my opinion!

Denver fans are crying about a lack of a pass rush. Guess who they have on the DL? Nothing but ex cowboys. Pryce left Denver and has 12 sacks in Bmore. Also, BP switched us to this 3-4, not Zim. If anything, they at least share the blame.

probably not anytime soon, because niether of them is very good vs the run...

they'll be good players eventually...had either or both ended up in a place like San Diego, Pittsburgh or New England everyone would be saying "gee why didnt we draft those guys, look at all the plays they make"

we have a very poorly coached defense...I dont know how many more games like the last 2 1/2 people have to see before they get it

So maybe testing that depth is a good idea. Dallas is a team in desperate need of a pass rush. That is why the Breeses of the world, with time to pass, can pick apart our secondary.

They will be great players eventually. But at this point I am scratching my head as to the lack of a pass rush.
I have long disagreed that coaching was to blame, but as each game goes by and the opposing QB finishes the game with a clean jersey, I am having my doubts about the coaching.
Here's hoping the next two games will be breakout ones for Canty and Spears. They are good. They just need to show us that.

Parcells has said just as much about those two, so I know they are cognizant of the fact they are under scrutiny.

Go Cowboys!

Next year is the 3-year theory of Parcells.

Ware - stud, could lead league in sacks if he got help on other side.

Canty - showing some resilancy in sophomore slump. I think he stays on team for several years.

Spears - has not responded to pressure well during his sophomore slump. Too many times I watch him fall to the ground as he engages OL. I wonder if there is an injury not being reported here because he was big time college player and a force last year....since then has fallen off face of the earth.
