I'm actually someone blown away that my silly post mostly designed to be catharsis for me by putting it all down on paper has spurned this much conversation. I wish I had time to respond to all the posts in this thread, because I think we could really break a lot of this down. You guys all make some excellent points, would be fun debating it further.

Has Brady had three serious injuries in the last 2 years? Back injuries? Is he coming off of one? Just curious.

1 shoulder
2 back injuries

At some point you have to make a smart quality of life preserving decision.

Oh please. Stop pretending you're lusting over Dak out of some preservation of life Romo argument.

Some way, somehow, something needs to change to allow Romo to deliver the ball faster. He's likely going to continue getting hit by onrushing defensive linemen if it continues. Dak is delivering the ball more expeditiously than Romo. He appears to make his reads quicker. It affords him the advantage of putting defenses at a serious disadvantage due to the lack of time for them to adjust. I think Romo is simply dealing with too many options to be as efficient as he might be otherwise. I not too sure Jerry did him or the team a big favor by allowing him to make as many last second adjustments as he does.

I think the problem, and evidenced by his nature that everyone has seen, is that he's just too much of a competitor for his own safety. He's going to look to make a play every single the ball is in his hands, body be damned.

Unfortunately, at his age, the body isn't going to stand up to what he's willing to throw at it. The staff is going to have to reign him in and really get through to him that he can't help the team on the bench, and he absolutely has to get the ball out faster. I think sitting on the bench not helping the team is probably killing him, so I'd expect him to try and do that even though it's against his nature.

If you gotta give him tough love tell him if he gets injured again, that's basically hamstringing the team for two years with his cap numbers, and a smart team would be looking to trade his contract next year when they have a guy like Dak. Some men take some tough love sometimes.

Romo has small children and I am sure he would prefer to not be playing with/nurturing them from the confines of a bed for his twilight years. (if he were thinking straight)

People tend to exaggerate how much can be done pre-snap even running the clock down to 1 second. Defenses can vary what they do from similar pre-snap alignments.

The most important thing you can do is recognize exactly what a defense is going to do and where the weakness will be.

Only 4-5 quarterbacks in the league are capable of it.

After that, you can change a play altogether, change routes, move receivers to clear routes or running lanes, recognize blitzes and change protections.

You can narrow down the possibilities from infinite to 4 or 5 by looking at the defense pre-snap. You can then guess based on tendencies.

It's like counting cards. Just know what card have been dealt only improves your odds, it does not guarantee your hand.

Poker is luck for some. It's mathematics-based risk management for others.

Most QBs count on luck.

I'm sure.

Now stop pretending you're lusting over Dak out of some preservation of quality of life argument for Romo.

Romo hasn't played in two years and that year he was arguably the MVP and that was his first year with Linehan taking over play-calling from the Red-Headed buffoon..

What are people even talking about?

The smart thing to do is to eventually go back to Romo if he is healthy enough to do so. If they don't go this route and the young kid hits a rough patch later this season, fans and media will be clamoring to get Romo back if they have a chance at the playoffs. This would then force the FO to make a needlessly difficult choice of riding it out with the rookie or risk ruining him by pulling him to go back to Romo.

The safe choice is to give Romo his job back and see where things take you from there.
The best choice is to leave Dak in, win MVP and Rookie of the Year honors and take his team to the Super Bowl which Romo has never done despite plenty of opportunity

Then nobody in the NFL should be playing due to this risk. His quality of life is his concern and not yours so put your mind at ease.

Based upon your logic, no one should ever play sports. Ever.

If, IF the team is 5-1 going into the bye, I think tony suffers a "setback" or more conditioning time. You can tactfully leave your starter sidelined without publicly setting the world on fire. Just my opinion.

Nah. Actually you took a perfectly logical thought & dragged it to left field. Nice work.
Thing is it is a logical thought for any NFL, College, or HS player. You have decided that Tony is the only player at risk. Great job.
