The way I think our 3-4 defense will look next season

Before I post the lineup let me say that I think it's a great move by Phillips and Jerry to bring in assistants that are experienced in the 3-4 scheme. I think that's an important part of the scheme working is to have everyone from the assistants right to the top all be experienced in the 3-4 and prefer that scheme.

Here's how I see the secondary looking:
FS: Hamlin - JJ will resign him and he'll be our anchor for years to come
SS: RW - I think the number change is a sign his willing to recommit himself
CB: Newman, Henry, Florence, Drafted CB - Why move Henry to safety when he's still a solid corner? And yes Florence might not be a Newman or a Bailey but he's still a solid corner and will allow Newman to move to the slot. AND, the team won't have to break the bank to sign him.
OLB: Ware, Spencer - Backups will be Rogers and a late round pick, FA or the Carp if we can't find a buyer
ILB: James, Burnett - Backups will be Ayodele and a FA, late round pick or the inside out Carp if he's still around
DE: Canty, Ratliff - Backups will be Hatcher and Bowen
NT: Fergalicious, Tank, Remi or draft pick

I keep reading this, but what makes you think other teams aren't thinking the samething? If mulitple teams are going after this 2nd tier of CB's this year, then the price is just going to keep going up.

My guess is Florence would be more comfortable playing with two of his former coaches in Phillips and Stewart.

I think so as well.

The other guy to keep an eye on is S Springs.

He obviously has ties to Dallas, and I'm guessing he may want to come back to Dallas.

I think the Commanders may have to cut him given their cap situation.

I think a guy like that could easily start in a pinch, and he could be a very good number 3 CB for a couple of years. And if we draft another CB later this year, we'd have Springs' and/or Henry's replacement further down the line.

But I'm of the opinion in TODAY'S NFL, you need 3 CBs who are very capable - if not 4.

I think we have to pick up one in FA and one in the Draft.

Out of Springs and Florence I would need to lean towards favoring the team signing Florence. Springs is much older and my buddy that's a Commanders fan said he's their biggest liability in coverage. Then again like you said his replacement could be drafted this year, but signing him just feels like Marco Rivera all over again to me.

I'd prefer Florence as well.

Not from the Commander games I watched. I don't however want to give big money to anyone over 30 unless his initials are T.O.

That is a good observation, Springs may want to be close to his father and willing to take a paycut to do it. When HEALTHY he is good.

I was thinking that Springs would be the cheaper option of the two . . . .

Where's Ellis? DO you really think he is not going to be around next year?
