The end left me feeling a little...meh. I don't know what I was expecting really, with Omar already dead I may have been expecting it to be disappointing.

I was happy that Cheese got his in the end. Props to Slim Charles for stepping up like that.

Glad they got Kenard for Omar.

I'm sad for Dukie. Smart kid like that just ending up a junkie. I'm surprised that with Michael being new "Omar" that he would have taken care of Dukie more, especially since Marlowe is out of the game.

I was glad that McNulty made it out alive. After Bunk tells him again (same as Season 1) that he's no good for anyone around him, Beadie talking about nobody being at your funeral, the whole serial killer case exploding..I was afraid he could kill himself. Good on him for going back to get the homeless guy, too.

The reporter getting the Pulitzer, even after the damning evidence against him...lame. The newspaper angle I liked, but the characters, aside from Gus, never grabbed me like the rest of the cast.

That's The Wire for you. It's always prided itself on being "real". I think that is why you see Dukie take the path he did.

As far as the newspapers, Simon hasn't been shy about his thoughts about newpapers. By having the fictional Sun win a Pulitizer for shoddy reporting, he's showing his thoughts on the current state of the papers. Gus was a great character, but I agree, the newspaper angle wasn't my favorite.

I don't think Marlo is out of the game. That scene at the end showed he needed that too much.

Overall, I thought it was a pretty good wrap to what I considered a terrific series.

Skipping over the spoilers lol

Anyone know where I can watch this online. I don't have access to hbo. :(

I thought it was good.

Its nice to see things end with a more real world finality than a drama based ending.

I have a website where you can download all the episodes but I will have to get it when I get to my laptop at home. You will need either a Rapidshare or Megaupload account though.

I just finished the series tonight, and I had a question I thought someone might help me with.

In the episode where Omar dies, at the very end, the coroner switches his name tag with some random white dude who's also dead.

What's the reason/significance of this? I couldn't figure it out.

Great show and I liked Season 5 well enough even though it wasn't up to snuff with the previous seasons. I agree with those who mourn Dukie's fate... although in a twisted way I was glad to see Michael fill Omar's shoes.

Also nice to give Bubs and McNulty uplifting endings.

I was a little disappointed in Kima even though she probably did the right thing... just seems somewhat out of character for her. She always seemed very loyal.

I didn't see any significance in the switching of the tags other than them being on the wrong bodies.

I thought there had to be some reason, but I couldn't figure one out. I'll have to get the DVD and see if there's director commentary on it.

The only thing good about Season 5 was Clay Davis, all the other stuff was kind of garbage.

But I did love the theme that basically showed you that sometimes people do evil things and get away with it.

Which is very true in real life.

I liked how the Bubs storyline ended.

I'm Sorry but it was not garbage. Season 5 showed that no matter what happens the urban streets get screwed over. It also shows how some people rise above or die off , but they are quickly replaced by someone else.

Drug dealers, poloticians, junkies, people that robb drug dealers......

Let me rephrase, The final Season of The Wire was nowhere near as good as Season 1-4. Seasons 1-4 were brilliant and therefore expectations for the final season was high.

The Whole McNulty/Freeman Serial killer theme was lame. The examination of the Newsroom was not that great imo, especially when compared to the examination of The Streets (Season 1), The Docks (Season 2), The Politicians (Season 3) and The Kids and the School System (Season 4).

Clay Davis put Season 5 on his back and carried it. Clay Davis and it being the final season was the only reason I watched the final season.

You love you some Clay Davis :laugh2:

My favorite part of the whole 5th season is they only showed the kid that Bunny Colvin adopted once. Of the kids I liked him the least. :laugh2:

My favorite parts of Season 5 all had to do with Clay Davis.

When he took the stand in his own defense.

When he appeared before the grand jury, left raging mad, then put on his happy face when he was ambushed by the media in front of the courthouse :lmao2: .

When Det. Freeman was threatening to continue investigating him if he didn't give him information and Clay Davis says, "Man, you ain't nothing but a shakedown artist" :lmao2: .

The whole series is supposed to be out in one box set by Christmas. Amazon has it for $175...sounds like a good deal to me.

Yeah, I have all the boxsets except Season 5. A co-worker recorded it and made the DVDs for me so I could watch it.

Next time I am the store, I need to remember to get Season 5. Hopefully they don't try to force you to buy all the seasons just to get Season 5.
