there are only 6 available rosters spots on this team. Maybe even less than that. I don't think I counted a 4th defensive end (3). And I only counted 9 linemen.

Its gonna be really hard to make this team.

There is more than 6,

as you know we lost julius jones, traded akin, and fergueson, and TE. We lost keith davis, Hoyte fb, nate jones, jacquee reeves. Brad Johnson is borderline due to age, Joe Berger is pushing Proctor, we let terry glenn go.

sure felix jones takes place of j jones, bennett takes place of te to miami, adam jones takes place of say jacquee reeves, jenkins takes place of nate jones.

now after that, probably leaves 5-6 roster spots, but thats what you want

also from what i am hearing, i think McQuistan might be traded to Miami or either Baltimore.

Interesting theory about the roster spots.

Where did you hear the news about McQ?

I believe that Bartel will go to the PS again. Why take up a roster spot for a QB that I don't see anyone bothering? And they will likely only keep 3 TEs. Gotta think more on the rest of the roster. No hurry. They won't call me until just before the first cut.

I'm surprised we even have 6 potential slots available. Here's players I consider locks to make the team. I've gone lite at several positions cause I don't see these players as locks although several of them should make the team. Anyway, it turns out I too came up with 47 players who make the team as locks, leaving 6 slots still available barring injuries. You'll see that I've added names of players at the bottom of the offensive unit & at the bottom of the defensive unit.

Of course there's more then enough time for several players to firm up their positions on the team; conversely, there's also enough time for a few players to lose their shot at making the roster.

Offense:
2 - QB (Romo/Johnson)*
3 - TE (Witten/Curtis/Bennett)
3 - RB (MBIII/Jones/Choice)
1 - FB (Anderson)
5 - WR (TO/Crayton/Hurd/Austin/Stanback)
9 - OL (Adams/Kosier/Gurode/Davis/Colombo/Free/Marten/Berger/McQuistan)
23 - Total (possibility Proctor or Kerkerkerker make team on OL; also
2? Amendola might makes team at WR)

Defense:
5 - DL (Spears/Ratliff/Canty/Hatcher/Johnson)
7 - LB (Ware/Thomas/James/Ellis/Spencer/Burnett/Carpenter)
8 - DB (Hamlin/RWilliams/Watkins/Newman/Henry/Jenkins/Jones/Scandrick)
20 - Total (Bowen probably makes team at DE; same goes for Rogers
5? at LB or Walden unless another LB beats him out & we keep 9
LBs; probably keep Brown & Ball at FS/CB but there may also be
a battle for final CB slot between Ball & Oglesby & for final S
spot between Brown & kid from Syracuse)

ST:
1 - K (McBriar)
1 - P (Folk)
1 - LS (Ladouceur)
3 - Total (Barring injuries don't see any changes on this unit)

On McQuistan, I am going what I am hearing from training camp and from Nate Newton, Nate said that McQuistan is making the same mistakes over and over. That our new head coach Hudson Houck likes bigger offensive linemen, nastier with bigger rear ends.

That McQuistan was the pet project of Parcells and Sparano. He is a different kind of blocker than what Houck likes. So, if he doesnt make it, then possible trade to Miami since Parcells loves him

Another team that might like McQuistan is Baltimore, they lost both of their starting OTs and their general manager was calling around a few days ago to acquire.

Dont get me wrong, I like McQuistan, but it seems strange and odd, when DAllas picks up 2 players that played for Houck in Joe Berger and L....... another offensive linemen that played under San Diego underneath Wade Philiips when he was defensive coordinator, and that same player played underneath Houck last year, best I remember.

So, seems like, with the Cowboys having those 2 players in mind and Doug Free and James Marten, then someone has to go. Suire, they may keep McQuistan since they might need a backup OT with Columbo in his last year.

Just thought I would point out those things. And while I am at it, thought I would throw this little nuggett in. Not sure how relliable it is, but Mac Engel was on a tv show covering the Cowboys and he said James Marten could be in trouble, seems like he couldnt cut it at OT, and now the Cowboys are trying him at both OG positions, abut Mac said Marten looks like he is in trouble.

Again just specualting, both of these guys could be a player like Franco Harris, in that practice time, they practice terribly, but come game time, they play great.

So, anything is possible. Just what I have heard though.

Just based on all the reports folks have made about TC practices it doesn't sound like Marten is doing well at all. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he is shown the door.

Hmmm. I hate to throw away a 3rd rounder so early. If we really believe he can't cut it (and won't ever be able to) with the Cowboys, guess the Cowboys don't have a choice. Also there some signs McQuistan may not be improving as much as he should. But it's still early in TC yet, so we will see. Don't like the idea that 2 of our backups may not be working out-- leaving only the highly regarded Doug Free who is expected to replace Flozel when the time comes. We better have 2 better options available if decision made to cut either or both. In any case thank God Joe Berger is looking pretty good.

If we can trade McQ, then we should make the move. It's not like we have a lot invested in this guy. He was only a 7th round pick remember?

Besides, we could always use another pick next April. :lmao:

I think this is a pretty good list. I think it more likely they go long at DB than WR and OL. And LB over WR. Again a lot will be determined by injury and less likely trades and suspensions. I'd say Walden and Rogers, Scandrick and Davis, and Proctor and less likely Kerkerkerker are more odds on than WR and RB. Bowen should make the team.

I want 2 good young tackles on the roster. I still have nightmares of 2005.
Marten is beginning to look like a bust. McQ is up and down; Free seems solid. The guys we picked up early on- just do not think that they would show enough soon enough to make us think we could let McQ go on a trade.
Besides which if COlombo is gone next year then Free would have to step right in and we then have no good backup tackles at all. Or we would be stuck with rookies.
