There is Brady, then Romo, then Dak in that order

After this SB I think that that everyone knows about Brady. Romo was the Houdini of QBs because his OL sucked. He was a great QB on a lousy Offense and his Defense was not all that helpful. Dak points to Heaven because he knows that he landed in the very best place for him to succeed. Grading wise I have them:

A. Brady A+
B. Romo A
C. Dak B

Romo's O-Line wasn't always terrible. Colombo and Flozell were solid, we had issues with the guards, but I really think our bigger issue was Gurode at center. Once we got a real center in Frederick, the guards were Leary (a rookie UDFA with questionable knees) and Bernardeau. And those guys started to get into a flow and become a pretty good tandem.

I think Romo was hamstrung by coaching that didn't play to his strengths and hide his weaknesses. Too much audibling which gets the offense out of rhythm, causes for missed assignments and makes procedure penalties happen too often, too much throwing of the ball in a scheme that isn't suited for short throws and a QB that doesn't throw the underneath stuff well while being excellent on play action. Then they tried to get Romo to emulate more of Brady's style of passing when Brady is much taller and has an overhand throwing style. Romo should have followed more of Brees' style of passing, using his feet and climbing up the pocket where Romo was deadly.

Meanwhile we threw way too often and not only does that not play to Romo's strengths, but it burned out our defense.

I think Garrett and Wilson have learned from these mistakes, but it cost us Romo's career in the process.

The lines in 2007 and 2009 were certainly fine, obviously 2014 was really good. Lots of trash in-between though.

And I'm glad I'm not the only person who felt like the coaches at times were trying to make Romo into something he wasn't to a certain extent. He would be perfect in a passing scheme that moves the QB around a lot by design - the comparisons to Favre weren't wrong in that respect.

Cool posts. I would say that his lines were bad except for 2007 and 2014. There was always a major pitfall on the line. In 2009 it was pretty good once Columbo got hurt and Free took his place but then his first game back was a playoff game and he made Ray Edwards look like LT.

I always loved Cowherd's saying: Romo was duct tape for a dysfunctional organization.

It would've been cool to have seen him play for Sean Payton or Mike Holmgren. Maybe even Bruce Arians. I think we would be talking about a HOF career then. Wade really squandered Romo's time then Garrett had to learn meanwhile Jerry had to surrender some power

Prescott points to heaven to give respect and honor his dead mother. He would even do it if he played for the Browns.
Yes. I think we knowthat.
He was joking at Daks good fortune.
Its a good deal for all of us though:thumbup:

The only real joke here is people that say Dak is a better qb than Romo is now. He might become one, but it's hysterical that people say he already is.

Its the Drew Bledsoe effect. If a rookie Tony Romo started on talented team like this Cowboy team, we most likely would of seen 1-2 Superbowl appearance if not wins. Dak is just as talented as a rookie Tony Romo. Difference is, he walked into the perfect situation. Most fans are excited to see a young QB with fresh legs and can run. Dak has the same traits that we loved about the young Tony Romo. Escaping from the pocket and making plays. Yet, age is the great equalizer...you can be wiser more experienced but the young guns are exciting and fun to watch.

I didn't know Witten, Terrell Owens, Martellus Bennett, Demarco Murray, Felix Jones, Dwayne Harris, Cole Beasley, Terrance Williams, among others were offensive trash. This revisionist history for Romo is amazing. He had virtually the same pieces on offense as Dak did in 2014 sans Elliott who was swapped out with Murray, who actually had MORE yards.

Yep, and in 2014, Romo should have been league MVP. He was brilliant in the Green Bay playoff game.

I mean he only played with:
Terrell Owens
Jason Witten
Terry Glenn
Miles Austin
Marty B
Dez Bryant
D. Murray

Romo's had a rough career. Plenty of QB could've done what Romo's done a Dallas... see the rookie

It's more hysterical to act like Romo been a one man band for 10 years. Romo was plenty blessed w talent.

Aaron Rodgers took less to the title game that Romo had in most years of his career

Let's see

TO - great WR that was disruptive to the locker room and injured/useless in the only playoff game he got to play in with Dallas

Jason Witten - excellent well rounded TE

Terry Glenn - good WR in 2006 that made a huge mistake in the playoff game. Was injured in his last year of 2007 and when he had his first game action in the playoffs, was basically useless

Miles Austin - good WR, very injury prone,

Marty B - good blocking TE while in Dallas that was basically useless otherwise due to not trying with Witten ahead of him, caused a lot of turnovers for the few times he was thrown to

Dez Bryant - great but streaky WR

Murray - good RB that didn't really blow up until the Oline became great, probably the biggest factor in losing the 2014 playoff game when he made what should have been a td into a fumble.

Yeah, Romo's had some good supporting characters overall, but when you consider he's had pretty much no good defenses, mostly awful offensive lines, and awful coaches. That's not much support for the 10 years of carrying he had to do. Not like other QBs have had much more if any success with around the same level of talent, only one I can think of was Rodgers this year, who benefitted from playing against a rookie QB and the Dallas coaching staff.

I guess I could have said offensive skill position players, but that's wordier and they are the same thing to you who blamed the QB for every loss. Just saying for anybody else who checks.

Brady's comeback in the Super Bowl was only possible because his defense shut down the Falcons for 4 straight possessions. Otherwise, he's just trading touchdowns and losing by double digits.

Even the best QBs can't do it by themselves. Just ask Dan Marino.

Blame Jerry et al. for drafting Romo's replacement before we were all ready to accept it. Some have, some have not, but soon Tony will be gone and you will move on, or you won't. It took until this year for the last remnants of the Murray crowd to subside. When Romo gets hurt again and for good in the next stop, the last of the Romosexuals will finally come around.
