There's a positive to Dez being out right now

Here me out, please.

When Dez complains and begs and makes demands to Romo in the huddle or on the sideline, Romo just rolls his eyes and walks away. He barely hears it, and when he's tired of hearing it, he basically tells Dez to "shut the **** up!" It doesn't change a thing about how Tony plays. Dez has to just deal with it and accept it. Same for Brady, Rodgers, Manning, etc. They just don't hear you or care what you think much.

However, big-time receivers with big personalities like Dez don't often mix well with lesser backup quarterbacks. Too often, those quarterbacks get intimidated and rushed into throwing to those receivers no matter the coverage or situation. It clouds the thinking of the quarterback, who's head is spinning and emotions are overflowing already. Defenses can sense it and adjust.

Weeden just needs to play the game these next few weeks. Nothing more. Throw to the open guy, take care of the ball, but otherwise, don't worry about anything and just play. There'll be no big egos to deal with. Witten won't be screaming in his ear for the ball. They'll band together as a team.

That's not to say Dez is a bad team guy, because he isn't. He's just so passionate and selfish (all great receivers are) that it gets the best of him. And it can be a challenge for players not at his level to manage.

If Weeden can get a few games under him and gain some confidence, then it could be a big boost if Dez can return before Romo. But for at least these first few games, there's a silver lining to him being out.

You can find a silver lining in everything.

But doing so in losing arguably the best wide receiver in football in a championship season is putting a band-aid on a bullet wound.

Also as a Cowboys fan aren't you. Embarrassed talking about Dez complaining on the side line when that isn't what actually happens? I figured the mic'd up segment from last year would have made that clear. Dez is a respected leader on this team and his voice carries weight. You should be very embarrassed indeed.

I see getting owned in that other thread by Sunday's events didn't take a lick of starch out of you.

And you've missed the point entirely, intentional or not.

Carry on.

This team is 100% better with Dez in the lineup.

The only "silver lining" is the all the others WRs got a lot of offseason work in when Dez was out.

I agree, I would much rather have Dez in the lineup as opposed to being out. I do think it helps that these other WR have had time working both with Romo and Weeden during the off season and training camp

Absolutely. But there's still good options on the field. Weeden just needs to manage those options.

Of course, I'd rather have Dez out there. But there's a lot more to playing quarterback than just throwing it to the superstar, and Weeden just needs to play with an unclouded mind.

The only positive about Dez being out is that his body won't be banged up when he returns. Same with Romo. Health down the stretch is key. As long as we're not out of it.

Couldn't agree more. Part of the problem with Weeden's performance against Arizona was he was trying to force the ball to Dez as well as Witten. With Dez out and Witten being banged up and probably either out or not gonna be 100 percent Weeden will not be able to force those guys the ball. He's gonna have to do what Romo does. Spread the ball around. Look left and right. Find the open man or the best matchup.

Romo already having back issues so I know this time off will be helpful for that

Yup. That's the only positive I can take out of this. They'll come back with fresh legs and in Romo's case, a rested back.

Nothing better than losing your top two threats in the passing game with a backup QB about to start for the foreseeable future

So if a coach was smart, once the starting QB goes down, he should really bench the star WR to minimize distraction to the backup...interesting

I didn't say that, but it's not all doom and gloom like people think. This team still has weapons, a great offensive line, and a much improved defense that has potential to be elite.
