There's a positive to Dez being out right now

It's really unbelievable the lengths people are going to prop up scrubs lately. If Weeden does well in Romo's absence it's because he has improved reading defenses and his accuracy. It has nothing to do with having a hobbled HOF TE and losing our #1 WR.

Every player in this league sucks until they put on a Cowboys' uniform apparently.

If Weeden does well, it'll be because he didn't turn the ball over, the running game got untracked, and the defense held the opponent to 17 points or less.

That's the only hope here.

you must watch ESPN and listen to Stephen A Smith.

Haven't watch that show in years. In fact, ever. I only see the clips that get posted around here.

But star receivers demanding the ball is as old as the NFL itself.

If Dallas can play .500 ball in the injury interim, and then make the playoffs, there may turn out to be big picture benefits to having Romo and Dez not exposed/resting up for the playoffs. It's a big if, but it's there.

I agree that Dez at times is a spoiled brat that wants the ball at all times. Romo has tried to force the ball into him even when he is not open. I think the Qb's now can concentrate in spreading the ball around and not being intimidated by Dez.

and not wanting top-5 WRs on the field is as old as...well....the year 2025?

Point to me an instance where Dez has done that.

You lost me when you started in about Dez "whining & complaining", every star receiver in the history of the NFL wants the ball and you can go back and look at Aikman & Irvin on the sidelines.

You lost me when you started in about Dez "whining & complaining", every star receiver in the history of the NFL wants the ball and you can go back and look at Aikman & Irvin on the sidelines.

And that is the ENTIRE point. Aikman and Romo can manage these guys' personalities. Weeden is much more easily intimidated by them.

Imagine you are Kellen Moore in the huddle for your first NFL game, and Dez says, "Come on, man, just throw me the ball. I'm open enough. I'll go get it." What are you going to do?

If you're Tony Romo, you smile and dismiss it immediately because you know what the defense is doing far more than Dez does. If you're Weeden or Moore, you might just keep forcing it over there because he said so.

Here me out, please.

When Dez complains and begs and makes demands to Romo in the huddle or on the sideline, Romo just rolls his eyes and walks away. He barely hears it, and when he's tired of hearing it, he basically tells Dez to "shut the **** up!" It doesn't change a thing about how Tony plays. Dez has to just deal with it and accept it. Same for Brady, Rodgers, Manning, etc. They just don't hear you or care what you think much.

However, big-time receivers with big personalities like Dez don't often mix well with lesser backup quarterbacks. Too often, those quarterbacks get intimidated and rushed into throwing to those receivers no matter the coverage or situation. It clouds the thinking of the quarterback, who's head is spinning and emotions are overflowing already. Defenses can sense it and adjust.

Weeden just needs to play the game these next few weeks. Nothing more. Throw to the open guy, take care of the ball, but otherwise, don't worry about anything and just play. There'll be no big egos to deal with. Witten won't be screaming in his ear for the ball. They'll band together as a team.

That's not to say Dez is a bad team guy, because he isn't. He's just so passionate and selfish (all great receivers are) that it gets the best of him. And it can be a challenge for players not at his level to manage.

If Weeden can get a few games under him and gain some confidence, then it could be a big boost if Dez can return before Romo. But for at least these first few games, there's a silver lining to him being out.

This is what Jesse Holley said a couple of days ago.

Stopped reading right here.

Bro you must be living in a fantasy land if that's what you perceive as happening between Romo and Dez in the huddle and on the sideline.

Some of you guys have very active imaginations.

I shouldn't have used the word "complaining", because that's getting the focus here. Star receivers are always claiming they're open, and they constantly tell their quarterbacks this. Irvin wore Aikman out with this. Reed did the same to Kelly. It's a football commonality.

Weeden and guys like him don't have the street cred or personality to handle this as well. They get caught up in it, and it affects their games. They often force the ball to the superstars.

That's all I'm saying. Of course I'd rather have Dez, but there is a subtle psychological angle to not having him there.

You're wasting your time here. Some won't listen to you because they are too busy in getting ready to fall on their swords to spare their "honor" over our doomed season. The rest are upset because how do you put Dez in the same category as TO. You didn't but it's what they are seeing. I get what your saying and felt the same to a point. Weeden should have better chemistry with the other receivers. All of this is for not if we can't get the running game going to an extent. What I fear is defenses pinning their ears back and going to kill either the RB or Weeden and we not being able to adjust.
