They'll both get their chance but I still believe if the Cowboys keep one of them it will be Vaughn unless Showers clearly out plays him. If they both stink the Cowboys could look outside the organization or just go with 2 QBs.

I would say odds are 1 will be kept however I have read some comment by the Cowboys that they may not go with 3 QB.

Texans will win this. They'll make a 40 foot statue to JJ Watt in remembrance. They hate the pride of Texas like that.

I think they all 3 suck pretty bad, however Weeden sucks a little less so, yea I would like for him to play. This game is just preseason and don't mean anything but for all us Cowboy fans in Houston, it is much better to win this game than to lose it.. its unbelievable how much trash Texans fans will talk over this game. With Dustin or Showers playing, we will get crushed. Likely same result with Weeden though, so its all good.

Lol my niece got in a fight with a guy at work who wanted to "bet" on the game. She was like, "you know this game doesn't count, right?" They are so stupid as a collective whole. I put together some fun facts to counter their whole our superbowls are ancient history arguments.

We lead the series 3-1. They beat us when we had Quincy Carter but have not managed to beat us since. The Texans Regular Season Record (all-time)since their inception in 2002 : 88-120-0

Cowboys in the same time period actually have a winning record: 114-94-0

Texans Playoff Record (all-time) : 2-2 (Last appearance after 2012 season) They have been twice and won 2 games.

Cowboys in that same timespan have been 5 times and won 2 games.

If they'd like to use the excuse that they are a 'young and/or rebuilding team' etc ... then by the time the Cowboys were 14 years old they had:
been to two superbowls and won 1, had been to the playoffs 7 times and our overall record was: 98-76 - a winning record.

Just some handy stats for fellow fans living in Houston. :)

Although Vaughn has played poorly in preseason he did make at least 2 quality NFL throws under pressure that were completed. I can't recall Showers making a single quality NFL throw under pressure. He's a very good athlete who can run and the Cowboys like his athleticism but not as a QB. In all likelihood if both are released they'll go with 2 QBs this season.

We're starting to see some teams charging less for preseason or at least throwing the idea around. It's only a matter of time before all the teams do it. I'm sure JJ will be one of the last hold outs at full price preseason tickets though.

They'll just make up the difference by raising regular season ticket prices.

True but then Showers is the only 1 between the 2 who lead a drive and threw for a TD pass. I think pressure is on Vaughn to go out and produce tonight. For Showers I think a good showing may not get him a 3rd QB spot but could help him get a PS gig.

Personally I wouldn't feel comfortable going with 2 QBs when my starter is aging and has had back issues and my backup suffered a concussion a couple of weeks ago in limited preseason action.

It's obvious the Cowboys don't think much of Showers as a QB or they wouldn't have him running down the field cracking heads on special teams. Although Vaughn hasn't look good in preseason the Cowboys may end up having to keep him unless they want to risk going into the season with 2 QBs. Weeden is just coming off a concussion so it will be interesting to see what they do.

if they keep one of the two I hope its Showers. Dustin had his chance, all last year on the team and all off season and he has gotten worse, not better. Showers seems to have something, not that he has played great, he hasn't but he showed something, I can't pin point it... I think he has a chance to develop. If they cut both, that's ok too. But I really hope they don't keep Vaughn, he has been horrible. Now watch him go 25-27 240 Yards and 2 tds tonight ha ha.

I tend to feel the same way, would rather have a 3rd QB.

and hopefully that 3rd guy is in someone else’s roster tonight. Don’t like Vaughn or Showers. Showers might stick around provided he shows something on special teams, but I seriously doubt it.

Showers did lead a drive and throw a TD but that came late in the game playing against the worst of the worst. It's a little easier for some of these QB's to make a play at that juncture in a preseason game against real scrubs. Vaughn is the only one between the two to have completed well over 60% of his passes in a preseason game and Vaughn was in there against some better talent. Vaughn was 12-18 for 106 yards vs San Diego competing 66.7% and had a passer rating of 82.2. Certainly not a great passer rating but Showers has yet to complete more than 47.1% of his passes in any of these games and has yet to have a passer rating higher than 56.2.

What you and many are seeing with Showers is an athletic QB who can run and make plays with his legs. We've seen QB's drafted very highly a lot of it due to their athleticism but you have to be able to stand in the pocket and deliver a strike under pressure in the NFL and I haven't seen that with Showers. The Cowboys have been rolling him out to the right a lot which seems to be the only way he can make anything happen. I don't like either QB but as I mentioned I've seen Vaughn make at least a couple of impressive NFL throws under pressure. It's pretty much pick your poison between these two but I would go with Vaughn over Showers. Although he hasn't progressed he's been in the system longer which gives him an advantage if he ever had to play. Showers best shot of making the team is on special teams and he can be used as the emergency QB. Looking at it that way improves his chances.

There's not enough gloat from last season's meaningful win? You know the game that actually counted?

The preseason is a hot mess of throw up. I realize that's been washed over more than a pair of stone-washed jeans in Saved by the Bell. But tonight's game....ugh, I'm not sure there are words to describe what a colossal waste of time tonight is.

Jerry had better show up at the stadium in a ski mask and black jump suit because this hillbilly is robbing people blind on national television. He's Jeffrey Skilling without the ankle bracelet.

In effect, Dallas' laundry is playing Houston's laundry. This will be a battle of future American Gladiator applicants colliding in front of 15,000 people that bought tickets for $10 from people that paid full regular season price.

And, yes, I'm one of those people forced to pay full price for these monopoly-money tickets. Does my bitterness show?

Awesome, hopefully we can get a better look at 2-3 guys that (sh)could replace Hayden.

Hopefully, the drunks don't burn your kids ears again.

You won't be able to tell any of that because the guys they're playing against are about to get cut.

This is basically an organized walk through.

I'll be able to tell if Whitehead can catch punts and hold on to the ball when hit.

I'll be able to tell if Weems, Collins and Gibson execute their assignments.

I'll be able to tell if Brinkley understands where he needs to be and gets there.

I'll be able to tell who is making plays for the defensive line and who isn't against the same competition.

There's a whole bunch you can tell if you're looking. If it was up to me, I'd play the backups against other team's starters in all but that third preseason game, because it's more important to me to see if the primary backups can hold their own or excel than it is to see starters performing like expected.
