Agree with not drafting a CB or RB early, but they could use a QB. Weeden is not the answer. Vaughn is a moon-shot. Romo is just about done. The team needs a QB in here in the worst way possible.

Romo just finished his best year. Just about done, not even close. (ya, if his back is worse than we thought, okay)

Straight cash, homie. He doesn't care one bit about anything else.

If that's the case then he is welcomed to move on, as will we.. Appreciate your take and respect that you could be on to the reality of today's NFL / player mentality.

I don't want to see us lose key players because "The Team" won't take a pay cut...

The one point I disagree with here is the idea that we don't need help in the secondary. My gut feeling watching the secondary is that they're over-matched, and this fact was glaringly apparent against the Lions and Packers. The Packers got to us in the fourth quarter by pressuring the secondary with quick passes. They simply outran us.

Your observations were sound, IMHO. Just a small point of concern on my end.

If there's a good QB available, between rounds 2-4, who has good potential, you have to take a shot. Romo isn't getting any younger and I'd like to be ready for the day he can't go anymore. Jerry was ready to do it last year. Even he saw Romo won't last forever. Also, I don't want to go through the years between Aikman and Romo again.

Mind you, I'm not saying reach for a QB. Just saying if one falls and he's the BPA and Garrett feels good about him.

I suspect they are looking at it that way too.
QB is not an early priority, but if great value shows up in the middle rounds, I could see them taking one.

It wouldn't surprise though, if Romo is physically in better shape next year. A full offseason to mend and keep up his routine that he's now established should really help.

I would LOVE to have Murray back. We'll see how the market plays out for him. Someone is going to give him too much money over too many years because they are desperate. If he goes to Indy, he won't have a field day like he did here. Their line simply isn't as good. No one has been able to run there for year.

Fans aren't dissing Murray and his ability. He was the best RB in the league this year, save maybe Bell. But it's not a coincidence that he had this crazy year once our offensive line got three studs on it. Will our replacement for Murray be as good as Murray was this year? In all likelihood, no. Do I think we can find a RB that can run really well behind this line? Absolutely.

That's still debatable. Just look what Russell Wilson, RG3, Luck, Newton had as rookies. Romo's health will forever be a concern during his career.
Plus, there's always an option to trade that QB for players or picks.
Yes, that part of BPA. If they get to their 2nd round pick and they have 1 player available that they had graded as a 1st round pick and he is a QB, then they should take him; however, if there are 2 players that they have graded as 1st round pick available at their 2nd round pick, then they should necessarily take the QB. The non-QB is likely to contribute to winning in 2015. They need to maximize their probability of winning in 2015 while the Super Bowl is within reach.

I agree with your stance but If Petty was sitting there in the 3rd would you take him?

In the draft,...Petty is an interesting option...take him... What about the FA Ryan Mallet, Cowboys need a reliable backup who can play NOW and be groomed to take over for Romo in one to two years.

What's it going to be then, eh?

No. Same goes for Hundley. Neither one of those two impress me enough to consider them future NFL starters.

I think Mallet is a guy who could develop however he is wanting to return to Houston and I think the cost will be such that Houston will retain him. Texans have issues at QB and I don't see them cutting him loose.

Besides some help in the trenches where a 40 time is not that important, I want to increase team speed. If Dallas drafts secondary guys, rb's or backers, I want their 40 to be blazing.

Again not claiming right or wrong, is there a QB in this draft that you would be willing to take a mid to later rd selection on? I agree that there is no QB that I would use my 1st on or my 2nd.

I agree with the proper rest and training Romo could be fine, but remember, he's needs proper rest and training. That's kinda telling. A persons back can just go out fast and without warning. I think mid and late round QB's are long shots at best. Romo and Brady are the only 2 who have bucked the trend.

I suspect they are looking at it that way too.

Absolutely I draft a running back at 27 if he is good enough to put us over the edge. Our running game got us to.the playoffs and now it's no big deal?
If you think a running back puts the current squad over the edge, you are seriously misguided.

Nobody said the running game is no big deal.

yeah, unlike with Rbs, the odds of long term NFL success go way down for QB drafted in the later rounds.
But you have to actually have one sitting there earlier that is really worth taking.
I mean, last year when we were sitting in he middle of round one, I strongly felt that Manziel did not fit that description. It would have been a massive mistake and use of resources....imo.
However, I would have sure taken Mettenberger in the 5th though....because the cost and risk at that point are so low.

I do think we need help in the secondary. But if the choice is between D-line help and secondary help, I'll take the d-line help all the way.

Xwalker is right though, if we can get some defensive line help in FA, then maybe drafting a CB first isn't a bad move. I think my point (inarticulately stated) is that I just don't want to see the team putting the secondary above the line in priority. We've done that before and gotten burned.

Oh, here's one more:

5. Trading Up: I will have a rage stroke if we bet the farm to trade up in the first round.
