If the Cowboys are to have any chance of going deep into the playoffs with the core players they have, they must do well with this draft. They've been 8-8 the past 3 years and aren't' that far away from making the playoffs. A better defense is all that's needed. They are just a good draft away. Based on Jerry's past performances at drafting, I don't have much hope of that happening, but a blind squirrel can find a nut from time to time. And if he trades up to take Manziel, then he's just after the jersey sales proceeds.

sorry guys, this draft isn't crucial. Expecting different results by doing things the same is just crazy. We've changed nothing and so this draft isn't getting us any closer to the playoffs.

By nothing, I guess you mean nothing you wanted done. Because last I looked, we brought in a different coach for the Offense, changed D coordinators, released some players that were not producing and signed few new ones (time will tell if good or not.) But say we did nothing is strictly wrong.

Alright Einstein, in the end the Draft is a crap shoot and when you are rolling the dice there can be different results.

Every draft is always crucial, and you need to at the very least hit on a couple players that will be on the roster in 3-5 yrs, but we need 3-4 guys at least to contribute from this draft, so ya, this year,,, its crucial if your expecting a Division championship at least.

Every draft is crucial.
Just like every recruiting class is crucial to college football.

The draft hasn't happened yet, so you can't say it didn't get us any closer to the playoffs. Well you can say it, but saying it is just as crazy as expecting different results for the same thing. In most of life that is true, but not in the NFL draft. A lot of luck involved, for every team.

However, I must be crazy as I keep returning to the CowboysZone expecting [hoping] to see more positive comments than negative, but it just never happens....:)

I agree that every draft is crucial, however I cannot see this team in the post season without hitting on a D line player early. I think our front 7 is currently better than advertised, but lacks that presence of someone to take a double team off of Melton.

Yes, and I think people are under rating the DL. It's already better than what was toward the end of last season. with everyone either playing injured or was basically signed off the streets.

Aren't they all crucial? We've seen what one bad draft can do (2009). This one's not any more or less important than the rest of them.

What? While I'm not over-the-top excited, I can see lots of reason to hope things will be better. For starters, a drastic change in philosophy regarding keeping large/older contracts on the roster. Not to mention a new OC who will also call plays, instead of split duties as we've seen, and new DC, and a new "draft manager" in McClay. It hasn't happened yet, but I see a lot of reason to be hopeful.

Time's running out on Romo and Witten. Without those 2, we don't sniff 5 wins, so this draft is crucial if the team has any chance in the next year or 2.
