This is a tough tough spot for Jerry - lets face it

You know he's got 15 guys in his ear, everyone from his son , to Switzer to Aikman to his NFL pals.

You know whatever move he makes is gonna get knocked. He's always loved Stoops - but is now the time for a CFB guy? Can he wait on Ron Rivera a 4-3 guru? Rex Ryan, Caldwell in Indy, great asst's but can they run a whole team? or should I say Circus/Team? Dan Reeves? Wade Phillips? Is Reeves too old and is Wade what he is? a good DC? And then throw in the 25 Mystery Coaching canidates and ontop of all this , factor in that the BIG names he so craves are all 08' Canidates ala Cowher and maybe even Weiss or Tressel or even Fischer. Seems like Jerry can't buy a break these days / past decade.

He's in a bad spot folks and so are we. And IMO, JJ is his own worst enemy on this - her let Tuna dictate the terms , he let Tuna run the Cowboys. JJ told him to take his time -why? only he knows. Now, he's stuck.

Me thinks there's tough times ahead for us...

And what we REALLY REALLY need is a General Manager.

(BTW the Giants made to Superb moves this past week - Reese and Jim Johnson's righthand man in Philly,we're already in the hole for 07')

What? Parcells left us high and dry. There are no more good candidates available.

Good point, not to mention that the last time fans were begging for a solid hire, he went out and got the biggest fish in the sea, Bill Parcells. Almost everyone said it was a great hire since no one thought he could do it. Now these boards are FULL of Bill haters. That's the lesson here, fans are never happy, so you have to balance getting the right guy that won't cause mass defections. Actually, honestly, where are the fans gonna go? The simple fact this is all fun to talk about but we'll cheer anyway and if the team wins, we'll praise Jerry and the new guy. Much like what happened with Jimmy Johnson. With the new stadium coming, Jerry will always sell tickets so he should just get the right guy and not worry about "perception."

I agree w/part of this. I think the coaches Jones are trully interested in are not gonna be available till next year if at all then.

Lovie Smith
Jeff Fisher
Bill Cowher

Rivera-Chicago and Ryan from the Ravens are interesting though. I believe Jones wants a big a hire for the new stadium too. There is quite a bit riding on this.

I love Jerry Jones. I love the passion he shows for this team. I love how he acknowledged his mistakes with Jimmy and his micro-managing the team.

But you guys need to stop being homers and acknowlege that he made a huge mistake. He allowed Parcells legendary status to prevent him from making the right decision.

We lost out on several candidates and are left with guys like Norv Turner because Jerry allowed Bill to take his time deciding.

Honestly, a coach should not be allowed a month to decide if he wants to coach a team. If a coach has hesitations coaching your team then he shouldn't be considered for the job even if his name is Bill Parcells.

Jerry should have had the courage to demand an answer a long time ago. Some of you worship Parcells so much that you are being ridiculous. Jerry wouldn't be demanding by asking his head coach if he is simply interested in finishing his contract.

What about Parcells responsibility to this team. Shouldn't he have enough sense of responsibility to provide his boss with a timely answer so that he doesn't lose out on hiring available head coaches.

I appreciate that Jerry was trying to respect a legend but there is a difference between showing respect and being a purshover. Sorry Jerry but you allowed Parcells to take advantage of you.

Please!

Fisher is overrated. Bill Cowher isn't coming to Dallas; he has too much respect for the Steelers. And you are naive if you think the Bears are not going to take care of Lovie Smith. And frankly, I don't think Jerry Jones was even considering this plan.

And I don't understand why some of these coordinators like Cam Cameron and Ken Whisenhunt were so bad. Fisher, Cowher and Smith were all assistants who were given chances at one time. Both Cameron and Whisenhunt are talented coordinators who have proven success with their respective teams.

I don't really understand this logic about hiring a big name for the new stadium. I have never went to a football game to watch the coach. Trust me, whoever he hires, if they WIN games, that stadium will be packed every week and sales will be out the retractable roof.

I think you have to look at it two ways here:

1. They had a contract and there was not much Jerry could do but out right fire BP and pay him a bundle of money to not coach. I dont think that was an option.

2. Knowing where this team is, knowing the talent on this team, as the owner, would you rather Fire BP, pay him a boat load of money to leave, then turn over the team to unproven coach,, which all the guys you mentioned are. If it was me, I like BP for one more year, and take my chances next year on some big name coach being let go or ending their contract, than taking a flyer this year. Now we don't have a choice, we have to take a chance on a young guy. It might prove to be the best thing ever, it might turn out horrible. But as always, the ride is going to be fun.

Just now found this to get back to it. So here goes. The 3 names I mentioned. Have all been names that have been publicly put out that Jones has a man crush for. Lay your crap on Jones if you don't like them or bury your head in the sand.

1. Jeff Fisher is overrated in your opinion captain football. In mine he's always got his team right around the brink while his owner gm have limited his talent on the team. Guess what that's my opinion but valid as yours.

2. If Bill Cowher is so in love w/the Steelers why is he retiring a year early when it's been stated he'll probably be back coaching after a year off. Yeah thats love and loyalty brother.

3. Chicago may very well want to retain Lovie Smith, but again and on this board reports, via sports illustrated collumnist Peter King, have said he would not sign and extension and finish out his year contract to see what is to offer as he was on Jerry Jones short list of coaches and The Cowboys would be his dream job as he grew up rooting for them and it would bring him home.

I didn't say any of this was dead on or book it. I said this was my opinion, which the last time I checked that's what this is is an opinion board. Well at least the part about Lovie has some merit via reports.

I'll try to get to your most extreme wisdom level the next time I post. My sincere apologies.

The fans are not happy because Bill was hired, they are unhappy because Bill failed. They simply manifest their disappointment in different ways. I frankly am glad as the devil that he is gone, and I was happy when he came. I was even happy at the beginning of this year. But when I saw Bill freeze up on the sidelines and start losing games he should of and could of won, I knew it was time for him to go.
