OK-sorry if this sounds like another Parcells-bashing thread, but...
Ditka's undoing in N'Awlins was eerily similar to what Parcells has been doing here...
1) His fancy QB-experiments blew up in his face
2) While he was very good at spotting talent, he would pick some less talented folks 'cuz they happened to be "his guys"
3) His coaching staff was pretty rotten(the OC came out of HS(really), and the DC came from some country in the Middle East where their sport is ?cricket?)
4) While most of the areas on his team were good, he dropped the ball on key ones nonetheless(i.e. the secondary was never fixed just like our own OL)
5) The game-planning was not necessarily poor, but very lazy
And ultimately-Benson had no choice but to fire him largely b/c public opinion was swaying against him in his THIRD year.
Here's the good news-the year after, the Saints made the playoffs WITH most of Ditka's talent on the field. Who knows? Most of our young guys may produce better with a better coaching staff?
