The Colt's GM comes right out and admits the huge contract given to Andrew Luck is the reason the defense is sub par.

Throughout my years of following the NFL since 1979, I've seen plenty of examples of guys who sign big contracts, but then take restructures/pay cuts voluntarily to give money back to the team to sign other players.

Romo has, if I remember right, restructured his contract 4 times already to do this. I recall Florio at PFT actually expressing DISAPPOINTMENT Romo didn't try to break Jerry's bank and shop himself on the free agent market to get far more money.

There are teams out there that literally have no $$$ to sign any players because some star player & his agent forced the team to a outrageous contract. I know a lot of sports sites like to cover Luck's regression & struggles as if he's some kind of passive victim of a bad front office.

But as this story shows, he and his agent played a role in creating this situation.

I've never understood this. I totally get wanting to make money while you're in your prime. But honestly who needs 23.5 mill per year, not even counting endorsements. I'd much rather take a major pay cut (while still making millions per year) and give my GM ammo to make my team an annual contender. Luck better hope his GM has a crystal ball when it comes to drafting or that team's only gunna get worse.

Total cop out.

5 of 14 picks in the first 3 rounds since they drafted Luck have been on defense. And only one (Werner) in the first round

Thats why you have a subpar defense Mr.GM

I don't know. If the GM was any good at drafting the young defensive help wouldnt break the bank for 4 yrs or so. Seems like he is trying to justify his own poor performance.

The Irsay's just can't run a team. Jim is as bad as his father. The only reason they had any success was because of Peyton Manning and Bill Polian.

This is the franchise John Elway wouldn't play for . Andrew Luck should have did the same thing. It's sad watching him on that team. He seems like a nice guy but he's getting ruined.
lol. After the Richardson deal...Luck should have started looking elsewhere...Those kind of deals are what kill a club for years. Ask Ole Jerry boy.

Arians would look real good in Dallas. He is getting old though.

Jerry would be apoplectic at the way Arians would run this team. I completely agree, tho, Haley. Arians with this offense, it would be his wet dream.

And the way he would foster Dak's development <drool>

Stiffen this defense and even Garrett could win a SB. Maybe.

I tend to agree. I think even Garrett could do some damage with a well-rounded team, but alas, we don't have that. And Garrett isn't good enough to win with such a huge hole on the team. Granted, few coaches are.

We need a GM :(

Jerry has always done this. He waits until a position is completely shot and then he tries to do a quick fix. To me,,and maybe its just business, but he always over evaluates his own talent and over rates how good the Club really is.

That's why I don't believe a word he says anymore.
