This is what I would do in the offseason!

Sounds good but sounds like a lot of spending for Jerry to do that he's not comfortable with doing he or stephen. This bargain bin stuff has taken its toll
Fans always want Jerry to do what we know Jerry is not going to do, spend a lot in free agency. No plan that has him doing that is realistic. It would take a complete shift in philosophy for the team to do that. Best we can hope is for Dallas to hold on to what it has and build through the draft. I'm all for trading some players for what picks we can get and trading some more picks for players.

The two biggest additions we got this year came by trading a third-round pick and a first- and second-round pick. Like other teams, we will not hit on all of our picks but unlike them we will not bring in costly FAs, so any version of all-in that we can hope for involves trading picks.

This is what I would do this offseason, not what I think the Cowboys might do:

-Fire DC Matt Eberflus, we need to bring in a modern defensive scheme. Brain Flores would be my top target if he fails to land a HC job. He runs a modern, hybrid scheme and has gotten results without stars. Jim Leonard from the Broncos would be my fall back option.

-Time to open up the books and move some money to the post Dak years. They have the ability to create over 100 million in space. Franchise Tag George Pickens. Give him one more season to prove himself. Resign Javonte Williams, Stewart Move on from Diggs, Steele, Hooker.

Free Agency

-Trey Hendrickson Cincy Edge (his value is about 22 million right now)
-Quincy Williams Jets LB (reunite him with his brother)
-Reed Blankenship Eagles S (solidifies the deep secondary)
-Boye Mafe Seattle Edge (young, inexpensive rotational piece)
-Kelvin Beechum Swing Arizona Swing Tackle (inexpensive, experience Tackle, Guyton/Thomas can still improve)

Draft

Sonny Styles LB Ohio State (rangy, athletic, elite coverage type of linebacker)
Dillion Thieneman Safety Oregon (a versatile safety prospect)
Add another #2 RB for competition, more trench depth
Om sold. And all is reasonable. Hard to draft specific players sometimes but the FA targets are reasonably cheap. We need LB and Safety help very bad. I’m also a Flores fan.

BPA at a need position is what they always do.
Totally agree and “need” doesn’t have to mean need right now after first round. Draft smart and have a guy ready when a guy becomes a FA. I remember tagging Spencer and paying a good player like an elite player. That’s what happens when you don’t have a plan and a guy in waiting

Agree mostly what your saying so Williams replaces Wilson?

Do they offer Clowney a two year deal?

I would go ahead and offer Q an extension for cap space

But the biggie for me and I’m staying defense only and the players I would like to see go and it’s gut that side of ball

Murray
Fowler
Houston
Bell
Wilson
Diggs on your list
Not good with the cap sites to know exactly whose contract is up and changing DC again which needs to happen but finding players to fit. It just my belief that group isn’t good enough either way. There is also a disruptive heady safety at Washington and name escapes me

You prefer styles over downs or were thinking of availabilty

Long reply but I had been thinking of this exact topic for about a week and liked/agreed with most of it so thanks for starting it

Not bad at all. Nice plan.

Like most Dallas fans, you crave a retread and mediocrity.
He would be an upgrade over Flus for sure, he can game plan and scheme, make adjustments….flus can’t do any of that. Any other ideas of people who have proven they can game plan and adjust? Don’t want to get another person who won’t.

I would add a veteran starter and draft his future replacement. Give the prospect a year in the rotation to develop before him becoming a starter.
I totally agree with adding a vet I'm just souring on Trey with his price tag we know its going to be high right? The Bengals and him couldn't agree on a price this yr right or am I thinking of some one else?
I could be a silly little girl but I feel that Jerry is going to open his wallet this Fa and get some help for EB yes he will keep him he wont admit defeat on Eb I don't see him going first tier but I see him going after several of the second tier. In his mind he has two one's. I also wont be surprised if he moves one of those ones for day two to make himself visible on day two lol.

This should be pasted at the top of the page, required reading!!!!!

We've tried to tell Jerry this for 30 years, if your front 7 is weak, your CBs don't matter.
I think our CB our fine we need LB DL

Adding Blankenship would not be bad depending on price as always. He gives you leadership the problem is going to be contract and development. Are S and LB has been hideous to say the least The sad part is Ebb used to be known as the LB ghost whisper What the heck happen to him I don't know because this whole defense has been well I cant say I would have to go repent. I don't know enough of the xx and oo's but I do know for what he is trying to do we just don't have the players to run it. So he is trying to compensate for it. So players like Diggs and maybe even Bland are use to playing a certain type of system probably most their playing days and Ebbs comes in throws his scheme in and some of the players just cannot grasp it. QW picked it up in like a day and a half. We shall see if Diggs has hit the playbook.
This might be why Bland Overshown Diggs who really wasn't in camp look like they are in preseason mode?

Jerrah and cap boy aren’t spending that type of money in free agency. Expect more of other teams first round busts and mid players. They believe if the throw enough trash at the wall something will stick and they will pat themselves on the back of it does.

Would any team offer us a first and a third for Pickens?

We need three defensive instant impact players, a LB, full-size DE and a Darren Woodson type safety.

In the off-season, I’d fired the GM unless i was owner and GM…..oh….,wait…LOL

Can't make steak out of rats. We only have one starting quality LB on the roster in Overshown. It's like Jeff Heath, no matter how hard you coached him, he simply did not possess the lateral agility to break down and make tackles.

"We don't have the players to run it." Agree. Or run pretty much anything.
