This is why I believe Kiffin will be back

You gotta give any coach at least 2 years. Kiffin will be back but can't afford a round 2 of this year. My hope is that Kiffin steps down sooner or later and hands the job over to Marinelli

So Spencers season last year doesnt count and I know it... Just because it debunks your silly argument about Selvie > Spencer. Fine.
.

Of course the season counts but do you deny that it is an outlier? Again we are comparing a franchise player with a player who can be described as a journeyman, at best. That the numbers are so close is appalling or astounding, depending on your agenda.

The thing is I don't know if anyone would hire Kiffin if he were let go.

His schemes are just too easy for these elite QB's to pick apart.

The only thing we have going for us is our ability to create turnovers but we play with such little urgency on offense that we rarely take advantage of it.

Waaayyy too easy for the better QB's. Not that hard for the average either because we have CB's that won't turn and look for the ball.

His scheme relies heavily on smarts and quickness in the corners and safety positions. Dallas lacks in both.

Marinelli isn't going to hitch his career and emotional wagon to a 74-year old irrelevancy.

I am convinced even if we win the east no one on this staff is coming back and I have my fingers crossed that is what happens.

We win the east and the staff is bounced. Had this been the approach after the loss to the Vikings in 09 who knows where this organization would be.

we need someone who can grab the reigns from the old man and make sound decisions.

This staff may have a big say, I mean they make it out like garrett runs the show....if so he should be held accountable for the Claiborne trade up and pick at 6. That is a move that gets people in charge fired all over the league.

anyway, I hope we can do enough to win the east but that it doesn't affect the future outlook.

although with the jones family hiring the next staff I guess it really doesn't matter that much.

Do you think that maybe---just maybe---the ease with which some QBs "figure it out" has something to do with the people on the field, rather than the one in the coaching booth?

All defenses rely on smarts and quickness in the secondary, not just Kiffin's. And yes, Dallas is think in the "smarts and quickness" department. Dick LeBeau is considered one of the best (if not the best) defensive coordinators in the game today. Put dumb and slow players in his secondary and the average QBs could pick it apart, too. Look at who QBs have been throwing on in Dallas' secondary---BW Webb? Jeff Heath is not a bad player, per se, but his 40 time is slower than mine (I'm 55 and coming off knee surgery). How about that LB corp? It's in worse shape than the secondary.

No, Kiffin's defense relies on heavy pressure to make the secondary's job easier. There are all-pro DBs in this league that get torched when the opposing QB has all day to find a receiver.

NO COACH deserves to be relieved of his duties after one freakin' year---especially a year with a roster resembling a M*A*S*H unit. Kiffin will get a second year unless HE decides it's time to hang 'em up.

Where in the blue hell did I say fire Kiffin?

I think dallas' secondary is lacking at this point. That's all I stated. A blind man can see that.

Marinelli is the reason for the 'Rushmen" not Kiffin.

Well, to be fair, Selvie is having an outlier season as well, so maybe those two seasons are the ones that should be compared.

Kiffin will stay, but Marinelli will be running the defense more and more each coming season. I think they plan on easing Kiffin into retirement.

I think the bottom line is if the season ends badly and Jerry wants to retain Garrett, he will need to reshuffle those deck chairs again to appease the "Jerry!" chanting faithful in camp next summer.

In that scenario, Methuselah is in danger. As is Bill Callahan.

Don't look at it logically. You have to look at it through the insane eyes of Jerry Jones. Somebody not responsible will be held accountable for his own mess.

Man, I don't see this staff getting canned if Garrett wins the division (big if, based on the way Philly is playing currently). This whole musical chairs with schemes thing is killing roster depth as much if not more than the cap or previous bad drafts. At some point, you have to commit to a philosophy and stick to it.

Theebs, I wish what you are saying were true
Unfortunately i believe that Garrett is untouchable unless we go 7-9 or worse
Firing Garrett would be too big a hit to Jerry's ego and an admission of poor decision making on his part

No way does he take that step unless really pushed into a corner

Jerry is al Davis without his football knowledge (scary thought)

I like RSs description , he is not just a football idiot he is a true delusional lunatic

LOL. That made a crazy kind of sense. Again, Spencer is a franchise player and Selvie is a journeyman. Am I the only one who thinks this comparison (even just outlier seasons) is not apples to apples?

Nope, you were echoing the sentiment of another poster who said Kiffin's SCHEME was too easy to figure out, for even an average QB. My point is there is no way to see whether the scheme is effective or not with this rag-tag bunch of defensive starters. Maybe Kiffin's scheme is not that easy to figure out, after all, and he deserves a chance to demonstrate how effective it can be with a healthy defensive unit.

So you don't want him fired, that's cool. It's weird that you want to hang on to a coach whose SCHEME is easy for even an average QB to pick apart, but as long as you're okay with it, I guess it's cool.

If Rex Ryan is fired with the Jets, why not bring in Dennis Thurman. His secondaries have always been very good, even without Reveis. And would love to get Kenny Norton back with the Cowboys somehow. His experience with Seattle's 4-3 defense would be invaluable.

Maybe not all the defensive coaches need to be let go, but some tweaks will be necessary. Neither Henderson or Eberflus are Kiffen/Marinelli guys anyway.

Taking each player's best seasons when talking about how each one is capable of producing isn't apples to apples?
