This is why I think the Cowboys are secretly targeting a QB

"There was a philosophy in place with Jerry, myself, Jason and Scott that we wanted to go young and find some young guys that are coming along that can be here and ultimately maybe step into Tony's shoes. Unfortunately that didn't work out. We probably should have done what we've historically done, which is go with the Kitnas, go with the Ortons, go with that type of proven backup in case something does happen to Tony."
"That's going to be No. 1 on our list, how do we do that better in the future."

So it's the top priority on our list but yet we have done absolutely nothing at the position and there will not be much available after the draft.

Maybe we could trade for someone like Nick Foles but I doubt it.

Do we even have a backup right now? Is Kellen Moore even signed?

I personally think the Cowboys were blown away by Wentz at the Senior Bowl and all of the talk by Jerry saying Romo has 4 or 5 years left and that we're not interested in a QB is just him playing poker.

Dallas wants a QB.. They want Wentz and as we get closer to the draft I expect to start seeing rumors about us going up to get him if need be.

Kellen Moore is signed and the coaching staff, especially the OC, is just fine with him being the backup QB for this year. I think you are right that
the Boys are going to draft a QB this year but, not in the first round unless they trade down and then trade back into the 1st round to get the guy Jerry
went to see at his pro day. I think if that falls through, you will see them maneuver to get Prescott in the 3rd or early 4th round. Their interest in Wentz
and Goff is strictly for "chum in the water" to get some team to trade up. Jerry does not value QB's standing on the sidelines carrying a clipboard and
signing checks worth 5mil+ per year.

I don't think it is much of a secret that the Cowboys are looking QB in this draft. I think past season it was the right thing to do to go with Vet QB who could step in at a moments notice, now I think Cowboys will go after one of the top 3 QB in this draft

I don't look at it that way.

We have a injury prone QB that is aging and we are a team that is completely QB dependent.

What better than to give ourselves insurance in case Romo gets hurt and seamlessly transition into the next QB era?

Are we going to draft a QB 3 years from now and then waste 2 or 3 more years developing that QB while our offensive line is in the prime of their careers?

Now is the time.

I fully understand and sympathize with your feelings but, Jerry does not and cannot think the logical way you think. He is an oil
wildcatter and his interest is all about the win now or sooner mantra. Just like Aikman, he waited too long to start the process
of getting his replacement and I think as long as he feels Romo has a chance, he will wait to see that bet pay off.

If they take a QB, it needs to be someone that can eventually emulate Romo's style and be a true understudy.

That might be Hackenberg or Prescott.

I believe Kellen Moore is signed for this year...whether he is still on the roster remains to be seen.

Also...Please post Draft based threads (and yes this is one) in the DRAFT ZONE.

I love Romo, and if he's healthy is top 5 QB IMO, probably my second favorite Cowboy of all time, (Irvin being #1). With that said, I feel we need to address QB at #4. It is to big of a risk to not entertain either Wentz or Goff. I personally love both of the game film I've seen of both. Wentz's arm strength and athleticism, Goff's pocket presence and accuracy are terrific traits of both players. I would take either one at #4. Ideally Tony gets us a super bowl the next two years and retires as one of the best ever and then either one of those two takes over and leads us to Super Bowls.

I love Romo too but at some point he is going to look like that QB we saw in the opening game against San Fran in 2014 every week and the good Romo won't be around that often.

It happens to all of them.

He already can't practice every day and the offense doesn't do anything to help him get rid of the ball quick.

No matter how good the OL is he will take punishment because of how our offense is designed. He has to be Houdini.

So imo just take Wentz and be done with it. Hopefully Wentz doesn't play a snap in year 1 for us and if he does I feel 10 x better about him making a play and winning us a game than I do about Moore or Cassell getting us a W.

They're going to have to go up to get him probably as high as #1. And like DFWJC said, not sure there's much of a secret. Jerrys over the top "Romo playing 4-5 years" talk was probably laughed at and dismissed by front offices across the NFL.

I see and feel your love for Wentz but, I think this is going to cause you much pain come draft day. If Cleveland doesn't take him at #2 then some team
will trade with San Diego to get him at #3. I don't see any scenario that Dallas would trade their next year's #1 to go up and get him at #1. Goff might be
available at #4 but, I'm not in love with him and I don't think the Cowboys scouts are either. Coaches might like him better though.

There is recent speculation that we may not even have to move up for him.

Broadus last week saying he has an inside source that says Cleveland like him but not at 2.

Then today we are seeing that Goff is the name coming out of Cleveland.

Might be laughed at by everyone else in the league and this board too but, Jerry, Stephen & Romo think it and that's what matters most. Actually,
Romo, the medical staff and the coaches are the only ones who know anything. We just speculate here!

I would almost (almost) guarantee you that SF, Philly or the Rams will find a way to trade with San Diego to get Wentz if he's
available at #3.

True. But my point was that if that's Jerry's attempt to throw a curveball to other NFL GMs as it relates to their draft plans, I don't think it worked.

They very well could.

Or they could just take Ramsey like they should.

If the draft starts Tunsil, Goff, Wentz then that is perfect for our immediate future.

We're stupid though if we think Wentz is a franchise QB and we don't make a play.

Eh, what secret. Look at the current backup. Look at Romo's health history. Look at least seasons results. Look at what scrub QBs, both backup and starter are getting paid. Really stepping out on that limb.
