It's going to take time and picks to rebuild this team to compete with the New Englands of the world. Time to start by dumping these over 30's because they will be too old to participate in any resurgence that might take place down the long & winding road.
AndI disagree with that. The window of this team has always and will always be determined by Tony Romo. And I see no reason why he cannot lead a team that is good without him, to a Super Bowl.
3rd in the league with 3660 passing yards
T-4th in completion for a 67.1 completion percentage
7th with 7.6 yards per attempt
The only categories where he's not near the top are TDs and INTs (or near the top depending on how you look at it).
Building an O-line won't take that long if we throw nearly all our resources into it, like we did last year in the secondary.
Adding a solid run game, something Romo hasn't had since what 2007, would cause his TD numbers to soar and his INT numbers to drop.
And the defense is almost there. If healthy.
Will adding the right pieces result in this team winning a super bowl, possibly not. A lot of really good teams don't win super bowls. NE has had a lot of really good teams from 2005 to now, but not one. Philly has had a bunch too, yet a 9-7 Giants team wins it all last year.
All in all, it's too early to give up on this team. If you do start completely over, we may as well deal Romo, Witten and Ware and players like this do not grow on trees. How many teams haven't had a QB as good as Romo in the last 20 years? Washington (since Mark Rypken to RG3), Detroit (before Stafford), Buffalo (since Kelly), Miami (since Marino), the Jets (since......) and Cleveland.
I could go on for days. As long as Romo is the QB, we don't need to start anything over.
