This defense has been pretty bad the last three games. Hold on a second there fella. This isn't another blast the defense thread. Just read it.
The Saints game. They just worked us up down the field and had every defender back on their heels on every play. Was it gonna be Bush on a screen, was it gonna be Brees throwing downfield, was it gonna be Duece McCallister up the middle? They had an excellent game plan.
You know what all that leads me to think? The Saints freaking offense is pretty damn good. I was right because they are the #1 ranked offense in the NFL right now. Yeah we were bad, but at least it was against the #1 ranked offense in the NFL.
The Falcons game. Michael Vick had a career game against us by throwing for 4 TD's. His freaking WR's finally started catching passes. He was crisp and clean on his passes for most of the game. They played their best offensive game of the season and still lost to us because the defense got it togther late in the game and shut them down.
You know what all that leads me to think? The Falcons freaking offense is capable of having those types of games and we got lucky they were only able to do it for 2 1/2 quarters. Yeah we were bad for a little while there, but at least it was against Michael Vick and we pulled it together soon enough to get the victory.
The Eagles game. This defense stunk. This is a fact and this cannot be disputed at all. But 23 points isn't 80 points. 23 points is 3 FG's and 2 TD's and it's also 1 point below their season average. The Cowboys are scoring 26 points a game and we only scored 7. So I guess if we scored our season average we would have won the game.
You know what all that leads me to think? The Eagles freaking offense is pretty good. They are the #2 ranked offense in the NFL right now. Yeah we were awful on defense, but at least it was against the #2 ranked offense in the NFL.
In closing. The defense has not played well against three pretty good offenses in the last three weeks, but does that mean the season is now over and we won't win any more games? No, this means we are going to have to play better on both sides of the football.
That loss to the Eagles stung me pretty good. I tore down a Christmas Tree and that's the first time in my life I have ever done that because of the Cowboys losing a football game. But I am not giving up on this team just yet. I can see the defense coming out this week and shutting down the Lions and gaining some confidence in the process.
Then the playoffs will begin and it's a whole new season. If our offense scores our average of 26 points a game in the playoffs I do think our defense can do enough to win in the playoffs.
I guess what I am saying is that I did buy a ticket for 'the season is over train', but I never went near the station and now I am giving away my ticket.
