Mens, persons of interest, dullards:
The Seahawks will be taking long looks at Austin on the autumnal Sunday of the first day of November. The air should be crisp. Ripe for the passing game.

So, I ax you mens, would this not be a logical time for Jason and his braintrust to try to connect consistently with Austin? Early of often?

Then, in a changeup, focus on Roy Williams. Just so the lad can show us what he's made of when pressed about his legitimacy to being a starting WR.
Jason can afford to experiment with RW on Sunday.
What's the downside? It's the Seahawks ferchisakes.

I want RW to get ever chance he can git to prove his grit and his moxie and his roxy while the Seahawks secondary is eyeing Austin and Witten.

I want RW to go out and prove that he is not a bust. That his days of prima donaisms are past and he just goes to work and improve. And give us value.

Roy, this is your chance. Don't blow it.

I think if anyone is going to be a beneficiary, it's Jason Witten.

But eventually it will open up more for Roy. That being said, when opportunities are there for him, he must make a play.

Yeah, Austin will help open up the field for both Witten and Roy. Having him as a deep threat receiver will make the secondary respect him much more than they have been. This should definitely work out to our benefit...and something tells me Miles will continue to find a way to make some big plays for us as well.

He may make big plays, but no way he comes close to doing what he's done again this year.

I highly doubt he tops 150 again, teams are going to focus on him much more.

I think Austin can make a big play, yes.

But, if Jason is thinking clearly, he knows this Sunday is an opportunity to showcase Roy and big time. And, boy howdy, our lad Roy better be ready or if not, continue his downward spiral in production and settle in as third banana.

It think Roy will pleasantly surprise us. For once.

Two receivers the teams are going to focus on from now on are Austin and Witten. I think it's time for RW and Jupiter Crunch to start showing us what they got.

Jason can do all he wants to get Williams involved but if Romo isn't comfortable throwing it to him he's not going to do anything this game either

Romo and Austin have something clicking right now and until Williams can get the same thing happening in his favor he's not going to get the looks or the balls thrown his way to have a break out game

Not to sound disrespectful, but duh. :) We may go another 30 years without a receiver going for 250 yards, much less back to back games totaling over 420.

The absurdly gaudy stats Austin has produced is an oddity. It's a breakout player capitalizing against bad secondaries, I think. Certainly not numbers we can expect to be duplicated, perhaps ever, even if he blossoms into a Pro Bowl player.

But I have to admit, I'm fairly convinced we have a legitimately good starting wide receiver on our hands, even if we only have a two-game sample of him starting. We won't know if he's a true No. 1 until defenses have a chance to do a lot of different things, but I have no doubt he's a good -- perhaps really good -- player.

I simply think he's flashed too wide a repitoire (sp?) of skills to be a flash in the pan. In 16 catches over the last two weeks, he's shown he can beat people deep, break tackles, work the sideline, catch jump balls, take a hard hit and hold on and beat jams at the line (his second TD against Atlanta). It's not as if he's achieved 400 yards on a Flea flicker, a couple of fly routes and a busted coverage.

How good is he? Way too soon to tell. But I am convinced he's not just a scab who happened to have a good game or two, a la Jason Tucker from years past.

Absolutely right. Williams' lack of involvement isn't about Garrett not drawing up the right plays. It's about the quarterback having more faith in other players.

You can tell Romo makes a lot of throws to Austin where the ball leaves Romo's hand before Austin is out of his break. You hardly ever see him make that kind of throw to Roy. Hopefully some day, he's comfortable with giving it a try.

Most certainly. But it's the vicious cycle. How does RW get to click with Romo if Romo is not throwing his way?
But, agin, i agree with you.

I guess i was caught daydreaming again. In my perfect daydream Joely Richardson would bring me a cold one, sit on my lap and we both watch Romo light up the scoreboard with RW (Mr. Potential) while the secondary goes crazy guarding Austin and Witten. that's all. Just a daydream by a handsome and genus fan. And at intermission, Joely makes me some menudo and brings me my smoking jacket and lights my fire.:cunning:

Uno Uno has gotten a couple of passes thrown to him early every game, that's Romo's way. If Romo sees what he likes to see he'll continue to go to Roy. If Roy doesn't look comfortable catching the ball then he won't get as many chances.

I think their is a misconception about game planning, as far as the offense is concerned in this thread. Sure, you look at the tape and you plan to run plays that the opposing defense has shown to be susceptible to, but the ultimately determinant for the play a team runs is assessed by what the opposing defense is showing on the field during the game.

Take Atlanta, for instance. Garrett answered their determination to shut down are run by looking to pass throughout the majority of the game. The same will likely be done against Seattle. In fact, Austin should have a pedestrian day, considering that he should now have an identity for being our most dangerous player; even over Felix. If you are asking why over Felix, it's not because of ability but because Austin get's the ball typically behind the defense, whereas Felix generally has 11 defensive players between him and pay dirt.

But the orginal assertion is correct. This will be an opportunity for Roy, since the coverage will most assuradly be leaning towards Austin. But, in truth, this is really an opportunity for anyone not named Austin, since everyone for the exception of him will likely see alot of single coverage.

Absolutely.
Bottom line: Me (daydreamer/amateur) be hopeful of a RW breakout. But you are right, the defense usually determines our offense.

Romo does not trust RW and who can blame him? RW drops about 3 passes a game; throws that hit him right in his greedy mitts!

Williams grabbed his big payday and is coasting. You can take a player out of Detroit but you cannot take the Detroit attitude -lazy, lackadaisical, and unproductive - out of the player.

This is just another one of Jerruhtor's brilliant moves as GM.

Back on point. Get Felix and Barber back to 100% so the running attack is full steam and it will not matter who the WR is. Austin is doing well and Witten is one of the top 3 TEs in the game. Tolerate RW's slackness, get what you can out of Crayton, and draft a WR in the 2nd or 3rd round next spring.
