It is disappointing, but we have to remember that Tyron Smith isn't close to being the best tackle in the league yet, Berny/Leary aren't very good, Fredbeard is only in his second year, Martin is a rookie, and Free is a mid-level RT, at best. It is still a few years away from being elite.

I think the cart get ahead of the horse with this OL. All this talk about a Top 5 OL and they really haven't played against a real first team defense..... Tryon Smith did not look good, Free was a mess and the whole 1st team OL just looked lost....at this point...I don't trust this Cowboy team....its all hype and hasn't proven it can handle anything yet... Romo had 3 sacks....in the first half.,....make ya wonder what SF will do

Just don't trust this Cowboys team 6-10 might be to generous

Yes SF has looked so great and formidable this preseason. It's the preseason, relax man, start this talk if this happens when the games matter right now I simply don't care. The only thing I care about in these preseason games is as few injuries as possible especially from our key players. Everything else is just not worth doing the overreacting you're doing right now.

That's what we saw tonight, and there is still some work to be done. Miami ranked 5th in defensive pass rating and 12th in points per drive in 2013. That's a top 10 defense, according to the most important metrics.

Yes, the gameplan was vanilla. But when your OL is truly elite, you shouldn't have to rely on scheme anyway.

3 1st round picks we have hope for so we build impossible scenarios.

For us. Not reality.

Miami's defense is every bit as good as San Fran's.

The hype that grew for this offensive line based off what it did during training camp was unbelievable. Of course they look great in camp, but who wouldn't against such a historically awful defensive line?

Now, let's not go crazy here. This isn't a bad offensive line, it just isn't a dominant, top-shelf unit.

And how could it be? Sure, we have an elite LT, so that's a great start.

Leary and Bernadeau are decent players, but they could both hardly be considered any better than average right now. Leary obviously has a lot of potential and Berny played above his usual JAG level last year, but there's no guarantees with either one of these guys.

Travis Frederick was great last year as a rookie and there's no reason to believe he won't continue progressing.

Zack Martin has never played a regular season NFL snap, so banking on him to be a key cog in an "elite" offensive line is foolish. He looks good against our trash defensive line, but it's not surprising to see him get whipped by quality NFL talent.

And finally we get to Doug Free, who gets worse every year and is quickly approaching JAG level, if he's not there already. He needs to be replaced.

Needless to say, I hesitate to "crown" these guys just yet. They're not going to be bad, but they're clearly far from elite, although the potential is there.

Elite OL? Smith is good and proven, Frederick is decent. Free is average on his best days (not many of those) , Martin an unproven rookie. Where & how did this elite OL talk start?
The OL has some great talent with top draft picks, but it's not a top unit at this point. Potential is there, but we all know what potential means around these parts.... Jerruh would've a Super Bowl by now just based on potential...

In watching the first half video someone one posted here...I saw M.Bernadeau whiffing on an inside blitz pickup that Dunbar could not handle causing a sack. At the end of the half, the LDE made an inside stunt move on Free and sent their Sam LB on an outside blitz that Dunbar failed to pick up, resulting in a sack.

Both sacks were on Lance Dunbar in the first half.

Dunbar is terrible picking up the blitz...he needs major improvement, right now he's a liability in pass protection.

The rest looked clean against a good D-line.

It started when they were dominating play in the second half of last season, then picked up Martin in the first round this year.

I thought the patchwork defense looked better then expected given the players that were missing.

Not True at all. Lance Dunbar gave up two sacks, Mackenzy did not see they guy on the one and Leary whiffed on an inside move early in the second.

When the RDE runs straight outside 10 yards up the field and and make a wide turn can't blame that on Tyron..the problem was Romo could not step up, Leary whiffed.

On the Free sack, his guy made a two gap stunt to the inside and the SLB stunted to outside, Dunbar whiffed.

Dunbar gave up two sacks, Mackenzy was there for the one, Leary gave up one sack on a very strong inside move by the Miami 3-tech.

Tyron, Free, Martin, Frederick played pretty solid.

Fans tend to overrate their team's talent. I'm just as guilty of boarding the hype train as anyone else.

You always are like that though. I've been here long enough to know. Kind of like Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh.

So we don't have the best oline in the league now?

I liked this comment because it makes such a good point in a few words about US. Not the Boyz. US. How could we go from having the best line in the league (the day before yesterday) to so many people suddenly in a panic about it today? Maybe we didn't and don't have the best o-line. But it seems to me the bigger problem HERE is the number of fans willing to panic over a gnats bottom. Our line is and will be way, way better than just OK. Time for many here to light up something soothing.

This offense did some familiar things by causing self inflicted penalties to put themselves in terrible yardage.

The sloppiness in regards to the penalties was the worst thing. That shows they were slipping into bad habits because they were losing battles. In a way, it shows a loss of composure.

So players don't resort to bad techniques when they are outmatched? Okay then.

The video is up from the first half.

2 sacks from Lance Dunbar and (1) from Leary.

I wouldn't call that "Outmatched" against a Top 5 D-line .

Lance Dunbar is a liability in pass protection, that's all I can get from the video. Let me know where and when on the tape you see the bad techniques or are you just jumping on the negative bandwagon this morning?

I thought we talked about this.

I agree in general. I do like both Leary and Mack but they have a ways to go. Been saying Smith doesn't always look all world but he's not a worry either. Free is above average but limited as well. Fred still has another year and Martin two more to get seasoned enough. They're an above average unit and I suspect we'll see a bit better.

I was talking about penalties not sacks, so save the lecture.

I was talking about your quote "losing battles and resorting to bad techniques" which you claim resulted in those penalties.

Back it up.
