In the 1960's during the Apollo missions the United States government spent 17 million dollars on developing a pen that could write in space - The Russians sent up a pencil.

Coach Marinelli - let's not outthink the room.

When it comes to Sunday against the Giants, there is no Victor Cruz and they have the 4th worst rushing average in the NFL. So it's simple. You double team Beckham the entire game.

Repeat - You frustrate Beckham and make him a non factor.

The Eagles singled him up in the first half -- 7 catches 61 yards TD.
The Eagles doubled him the second half - Eli looked at him one time - that's it.

In our first match up Beckham caught 5 balls for 44 yards and an 8 yard average - he led the team. You might say, yeah, but they probably should've beat us, except we weren't playing with a loaded deck on defense - now we are.

I don't care if Rueben Randle and Larry Donnell break NFL records for receptions they are not deep threats and with the pass rush closing in on Eli they will get nothing but quick outs and slants. Under this scenario it means the Giants must sustain long drives on short plays which extends the game and that's assuming Eli doesn't turn the ball over which is a BIG assumption.

Of all the scenarios of offensive vs defense - The Giants have one big advantage in this game - Beckham vs our secondary.

Captain Obvious says - You take that advantage away and you have a chance to win the game.

My neighbor earns $1,500 dollars a week opening envelopes!

I agree that Beckham is their biggest threat, but Eli can spread the ball around to other receivers and keep drives alive. Pass rush will take away some of OBJ's effectiveness and will be our biggest way of taking Eli's arm out of the game. Their backs are not great, but are good and can catch the ball in the flat.

A great pass rush while not giving up on the run will win this game and smart coverage plan for OBJ and the center of the field will result in some much needed turnovers.

Yes, need to take Beckham out of the equation. I actually am concerned with their run game too. Jennings only had 13 carries last week, but he is a powerful runner. Seems he pushed the pile for extra yards.
Key as we been saying though, pressure Eli. So secondary must cover an extra second to not allow quick passes.

On a side note. The Russians may have sent up a pencil, but they also would have needed to sent up sharpeners. And extra pencils. That takes valuable time away from their mission....lol...maybe they wanted to evaluate the sharpness ona pencil in space as opposed to gravity sharpening....lol...
And I serious doubt we actually spent $17 mil on a pen. That was probably the total cost of the mission itself back then...
Well,,come to think of all the wasted money, maybe they did spend that much. :lmao2:

I just saw a little earlier that OBJ is questionable with a hamstring injury. So even if he does play there's reason to believe he won't be himself.

And with Dez possibly suiting up along with a hopefully reinvigorated offense coming off of the bye week, this could be a big win for us.

Just so the full truth is known: Our space program used pencils for a time as well. However, the lead had a tendency to break and get sucked into the ventilation system. This created a serious fire hazard, hence the need for a pen.

Exactly right. And the Russians liked our pens.

I figure the defensive staff will be preparing for Beckham, but the key is rattling Elly May early and often.

It really doesn't matter, Eli's crumpled, torn, body will be laying on the field hours after the game ends.

The best defense against any deep threat is the pass rush
Even the best deep threat needs time to get down field
Also with beckham you knock the crap out of him a couple times and he won't be running any routes but down the sideline

Exactly. The reason he was almost non effective against us was because JJ brought the wood to him in the first quarter. Do that again, and it's The same thing all over again. Take him out early and it's game over!!!
