This thing is not a 1 off-season fix

So it's going to take multiple offseasons to get backups?

Depth is necessary in a violent league as Las season has proven you can't rely on starters by hoping they don't get hurt lets walk through hypotheticals
If Tony gets hurt we go to (______)
If Dez gets hurt (____) will step up
If DMC gets hurt we will turn too (__)
Mo will miss a few games as will Lee Rolando tends to be good for a few missed games plus one more failed drug test and he's suspended. DLaw Thortin and Crawford are studs but Coach Rod likes,a rotation and keep guys fresh who is behind these guys what if D Law needs more time to heal you know how Cowboys Dr.s are 6 week recovery's become 2-3 month recovery's Whatabout when Lee is hurt who steps in for him and we can live with Church at SS but he I in his last year Its just alot to try too address in one off season

Everybody knows this except Jerry,I am hoping Stephen and Mcclay acknowledge this internally and draft our future Qb and start building our Defense inside out first for the first freaking time since forever instead of the same old idea of drafting Dbs high.

Not everybody thinks the team can't be competitive next year, if that's what you're suggesting.

I agree we need to get the QB at 4, though.

Too many holes for one off season

CB not convinced with Carr or Mo
LDE back up
DT 1 technique back up
RDE pass rusher
OLB Back up: Sean Lee will miss a few games
FS or SS if Byron plays SS we need a FS if he plays FS we will then need a SS
Back up QB
Back up RB
WR with speed or can win 1om 1 matchups

You think?

Based on our needs you pointed out, this is how I think Jerry and the crew will fix them.

CB- We try in sign Hall and go into the season with Clai, Carr, Scan and Hall hoping for the best. On paper those 4 don't look that bad. Claiborne was the safest bet to be worth his draft status at the time we drafted him. Claiborne was suppose to fill LCB for years but didn't. Question does Dallas want to risk another top 6 pick on a CB? We might draft Ramsey and if we do draft him, he better be worth it or else Dallas would never draft another CB that high again.

DE- Just sign Hardy, let him be him and let him terrorize opposing QB's. If Hardy does not pan out hopefully weren't committed long term. If Gregory can get his act together and rush the QB we are set at DE. We still have Lawrence, move him to the right side to see if last year was a fluke or not. We have possibilities at DE

DT backup- FA cap casualty or mid rounder draftee

OLB backup- FA or draft

FS- Byron Jones.

QB backup- FA, 2nd or 3rd rounder, maybe both

WR- FA or draft

RB backup- We need a starter- Draft

This all leads to what position we draft.

At 4 I'm grabbing RB, CB, WR in that order.

In the 2nd and 3rd I would grab 2 on these 3 positions DL, QB, S.

In conclusion, we definitely need a game plan. that Jerry and company has a game plan similar to this

Really? Just figuring this out? It only took you 20 years of futility to realize it is not a 1 year fix. Impressive.

Just a silly question...what happened on the CB Hill front? Bad rumors?

You mean Hall?

He probably was too expensive for the Cowboys who probably thought they could get him for close to league minimum.

It's amazing how many of these serious holes are on defense when we finished middle of the pack with no offense to speak of

I love how some fans speak with such certainty regarding how "close" we are or aren't. The fact is, no one really knows a damn thing until the season has started and we've seen the squad in action. Everything is speculation.

I remember losing every preseason game in 2014, and then that ugly opener against San Fran. The whole board was like OMG and everyone just knew we'd be the laughingstock of the league that year.

And then like 6 weeks later we hadn't lost another game and we were handing Seattle a big old L in Seattle. We all know how the rest went.

See how unpredictable modern NFL is?

I think I'll wait and see.

I can appreciate that.

That 2014 season was unique.

But it was certainly not what typically happens.

Last year, we were 2-0 and looking a little shaky.

Even as negative as I view things, I thought we would win more than one game minus Romo.

It happens when you draft and whiff on the same positions, CB/DE.

Interesting how we get credit and have had success at drafting positions that are low risk.

The OL is very low risk. Bust rate at the top of the draft are not as high as other positions.

This will be a draft out of that comfort zone.

Boss you are absolutely right no one knows I just found it alarming when Jerry said towards the end of last year that they got cute with the backup QB I hope they aren't cute this year regarding pass rush or RB heck CB for that matter A rumor is going around that we may be talking to a 240lb DE from Oakland

This team had better damn sure not pass on either Wentz OR Goff at four if they are there.

The way this off-season was approached, it's obvious that the plan must not be to load up and take a shot at winning while Romo is still here.

And that's fine by me, but you cannot couple that with passing on potential future franchise QBs.

If they do both, I will finally be convinced that the organization has absolutely no clue what they are doing.

Someone's a Redditor.

It's not me. I maybe once a year look at something on Reddit and only when a friend of mine sends me a link to something. Like Slashdot, too many ***hats spew complete crap on that site.
