Aldon Smith looked good early on, then appeared to run out of gas. Many would argue he looked good against a poor Seattle OL then decent against the rest of the competition. However, he was second with the team with sacks and pressures.

With Randy Gregory now in the fold, it might not be a bad idea to resign Aldon to a reasonable extension. Based on his 2020 production, his contract should be somewhat affordable.

He can rotate in at defensive end to keep everyone fresh or even kick inside at DT. Certainly has the weight these days to become an interior player being close to 300 lbs. In a rotational role, he could still be a valuable rusher at an affordable rate.

At the right price I would gladly take Aldon Smith back, give him a full camp and hopefully a pre season to get into football condition

This is one I think they will give hard consideration. Got to fit everyone in however.

All depends on price imo. I think with a year under his belt he should be better conditioned next year for the rigors of a NFL season considering the time off he had.

On the flip side age is age in the NFL.

Depth is important and Smith is NFL worthy depth at the very least.

All about the cost, that is where the debate begins.

Vet minimum? Sure. But I'm not paying him $1M per each sack.

I actually do think he'll return though on another one year deal for maybe $2M. His agent probably wants to get him a longer deal as it will be his last decent paycheck, but I see no harm in only giving him a year again.

Allow him to play rotational snaps, not as a full time starter, to keep me fresh.

At the end of the season, I thought bye bye Aldon because he wasn't the type of DE the Cowboys needed imo, however, with Quinn coming to town I think Aldon would be a good signing.

Currently, Quinn's defense doesn't have a 4Tech which Quinn needs for his scheme. Adding weight, slowing down but being strong at the point of attack is what Aldon evolved into, and is good fit now for DAL.

    2yr. $5-6M/3M guaranteed w/ incentives

I've gone back and forth on this, my guess is he signs elsewhere. The decision to sack Tomsula will not have gone down well with him. I hope I'm wrong.

I would expect him to be within the rotation. To me having a strong rotation without having drop off in play along the defensive front is a big step in getting this defense turned around.

Does he fit the Quinn 43?

Maybe they can find a role for him.

Looked to me like he didn't forget how to play football, but they asked him to play WAY too many snaps.

Can probably be a situational rusher for another few years. Effective if used properly.

Clearly, they have to get Randy Gregory on the field as much as possible and hopefully Gregory does he part to make that happen too. So that means Aldon Smith is really a backup and maybe they can slide him inside on some downs. So the question is, how much does he want? I would sign him but not for any serious amount of money. Maybe it's time to see what Bradley Anae can do.

I'd be fine with it for the right price. We don't have any quality depth at end to rotate with Lawrence and Gregory, and I really don't want to spend an early pick on a position where we've got starters. We need for Anae to develop, but there's no guarantee he will and Armstrong doesn't add much to the pass rush.

    Nope.

    Dude is a dinosaur.

You are taking valuable snaps away from DL who despairately need the play.

I expect DL to be a priority in the draft and FA.

    Pass on Smith.

Not sure. McCarthy was the one who lured him here.

Playingwise, though, he's only completed six seasons. Age is more of a factor when it's combined with wear and tear.

I thought the very same thing, but heard Jerry after the season say they want to bring him back.

He played way too slow and too heavy! Depends on his dedication to losing some weight.
