Thoughts about the 2 trades today!

If anything it did move my needle for 2026. We still have the two 1sts next offseason. Use it to fix the secondary.

2026 def

DE: Eze
DT: Williams
DT: Clark
DE: ?

LB: Wilson
LB: Overshown
LB: James

CB: 1st round
CB: Bland
CB: Revel
S: ? (MInkah would have been sweet they did have an offer for him today)
S: 1st Round

It’s unfortunate that Liufua had a promising rookie year under Zimmer. He seems to be in the doghouse with Eberflus. I like the kids aggressive , speed , and instincts. If they are able to draft a true FS I would strongly consider moving Liufau to SS. He has similar traits to Tuafunga from the Broncos.

I have to admit... am still VERY bummed after last night's game

but the potential of Williams & Clark at DT is a little exciting. We just need the DEs to step up now.

Hoping Wilson can come in be the MLB Dallas has lacked this season.

still though, playoffs will be a tough get

Both will be here at least next season, so we'll see what happens.
At this point, I just want the team to be fun to watch. The defense hasn't been, so hopefully that will change.

I think Williams helps the DEs eat as Qb's will not be able to step up into the pocket as it will be collapsed.

Went to a Jets forum and there are several actually excited about getting Mazi Smith. Here is what one posted:

DT Mazi Smith to the Jets. That's a nice throw-in.
6'3 340lb'er that ran a sub 7 second 3 cone at 330 at the combine???

THAT is exactly what I want in a run stuffing DT.

Post of the night!! Soon as jeanty gets 10+ yards on a carry it's over
We got a new MIKE who plays his fits (has football IQ) and top end run stopping DT. Plus, Overshown should be out there. That's a majorly upgraded front 7 if you're being conservative.

Now, if Jeanty tears it up after the bye, we need to run Eberflus out of town. He'll be out of excuses.

-These 2 trades could be a vote of confidence in Eberflus and his scheme. Many believe Williams fits that Seattle up the field 4-3 DT. Wilson is an experience true MLB who knows his fits in a zone scheme. Wilson may have lost a step, but he does possess strong instincts and size for the position. Lack of instincts has been an issue for both Murray and James.

-It will be interesting how they employ these three DT's. We might see Osa more as a pass rusher and Clark playing more against the run. Keep in mind, Eberflus scheme basically play two 3T's and doesn't use a traditional 1T. A rotation of these three plus Thomas is very good and deep. We could also see some lineups with all three on the field at the same time. Clark/Osa could play some end in a pinch.

-I truly believe these 2 moves aren't just for this season, but are for the next few years. Both players have two more years left on their contracts, this runs with the timeline of three 1st rd picks forthcoming in the next two seasons.

-Our front 7 improved in a big way, but the defense still has a lot of holes that need to be addressed: edge rusher, linebacker, corner, safety. A lot will depend upon how Overshown/Revel look the rest of the season.

-We should be all happy, these trades are like free agent signings which we never do. One is elite, other one isn't a bottom of the barrel type of player by any means. This might tells us, they are indeed using those cap funds created in the Parsons trade, where they may even sign a big fa next offseason. They could still go out and sign a Hendrickson as a fa.

-I see many think we overpaid for Williams, they paid market value for a top 5 DT, which he certainly is. These type of players rarely become available as these interior rushers are very hard to find. Pretty sure if Simmons was available, it would have been a similar price tag and he wants a new contract.
The issue is the Cowboys have no plan. Jerry got taken to the cleaners. He got embarrassed last night and gave the Jets what they wanted. That is not how you build a football team. Hopefully they use their cap money and two first round picks to improve this defense in the offseason. Let’s have a plan and not do anything out of desperation or embarrassment for once. We have an 100 million dollar cornerback that looked like he can’t cover anyone last night, a tight end that can’t break a tackle, and a right tackle that needs to be cut as soon as the offseason begins. All of these guys were signed because of desperation. Williams hasn’t played great since 2022.

Total bs. Williams is one of the best players in the league.

I'd prefer a first-round DE and first-round S. I'd lean toward planning on Bland and Revel being our starting corners and finding a nickel if we either trade or cut Diggs. More pressure is going to make all the corners better, and since Eberflus wants to play zone, we need a free safety who can do it well.

It won't fix the problem.
That’s not what he said! These trades are for the rest of this season AND the next 2 years.
I like the moves. This gives us slim hope for this year( after these moves, I am actually as worried about the Offense as the Defense. Our O line is falling apart.) and gives us 2 proven NFL players that can start for us next year. These 2 moves give us less holes to fill next year. With these 2 trades are defensive holes are MUCH more manageable next year. Which is good because we may need to find an OT even though we have put so many resources into OT.
