Yeah, I don't see Darren Woodson, but I see a potential backup, or even a starter after a couple of seasons depending upon his progression.

Anythings possible I suppose..Look how much Alan Ball has improved over the last few years. I thought he was a complete waste of a roster spot three seasons ago, and now he looks fantastic.

I don't think Church has Woodson's speed.

The Cowboys like him, though.

I just googled Woodson's 40 time and found 4.44. I've got AdamJT13 using that time, too. A couple of sources had it.

Church is a 4.6 guy, but they say he plays faster.

I read where the Seahawks and Browns told Church that he was a Tampa 2 outside linebacker. Church did state that most teams did project him to safety.

When I was doing the digging on Woodson, I read where Jimmy Johnson had him do CB drills to strengthen his cover skills.

Look where Akwasi Owusu-Ansah is playing now.

The slot...

I think AOA is the guy to watch next year. The fastest way to get him on the field is going to be slot CB or SS, imo.

AOA is very smart, too. I look for Owusu-Ansah to be in the running for an open SS spot next year. JMO

I would keep McCann over Church, but it looks like Church is winning if you listen to the things being said.

Church is exactly like Woody, except for the speed, or the man coverage ability, or the size, or the versatility.

Other than that they are exactly alike.

Woody is the only player in modern NFL history that I can think of that could actually play LB, safety and CB and do all of them reasonably well.

Yeah Woodson was a rare talent. I think Arizona used Adrian Wilson in a similar role earlier in his career.

I like Church. I think he has a chance to have a good future in the NFL with the Cowboys if he continues to work.

I see him as a Rodney Harrison type of player. Smart, big hitter and play maker, but not the greatest cover safety.

Alan Ball always showed the ability to play. In those previous years, his mechanics were good and it was simply about putting it all together in an NFL defensive scheme. His pedal was always one of the best, he never got turned around, always opened his hips the right direction to turn and run on the receiver, and he always looked for the football and didn't "face guard."

Whether or not he could put the talent together along with the scheme was the problem. He appears to have done that at CB. The awesome thing that I'm excited about is having a fast, rangy CB that knows how to play the position now roaming "free" as a safety. Ball should make a lot of plays this year. A lot. I'm predicting 5 INTs.

I agree. I think it was also important to have Ball solely focused on playing the safety spot as Campo said early on in camp.

Seahawks: 5-11 last year
Browns: 5-11 last year

Wouldn't put too much stock into two of the worst defensive teams in the league :)

Those things I listed above are reasons why I don't think Jamar Wall is ready. He's gotten turned around too much and doesn't break on the receiver too well.

With his short and stocky appearance I'm not sure that's something that can be remedied...he probably could stand to lose between 10-15lbs to get quicker, but he needs some work before he's ready for a Final 53.

You also can't have a CB arm-tackling in the open field. Alan Ball doesn't do that - just ask Chiefs WR Bobby Wade.

I agree I think it Wall may not make it. He has a little more time but given the play of some the others players competing for the job I would say Wall chances are slim.

So does this mean Woodysgirl will have to change her name to Churchgirl?

Takes time to mature, develop some guys to be acclimated to the pro level before the lights go on. I too wasn't a Ball fan before this season but now he gets his shot and I hope he is ready.

I hope we find a way to keep Church. McCray is the better ST player, but Church could be a starter down the road, just like I'd like to keep McCann, but It appears Gordon has the 4th CB job, there will be a tough cut somewhere in the Secondary.
