Thoughts on Cards Game

I already posted comments about Wright, Joseph, Anae and Connor Williams so I will confine my thoughts here to other topics.

Jabril Cox had a really good game last night. The thing the struck me is how good a tackler he is. He has way better technique than Jaylon Smith. Tackling is about getting the other guy down and Cox gets this done with efficiency. He also seems to have good instincts. He is rookie raw but he will learn.

I am concerned with the DT position even if Gallimore is not seriously injured. (I posted a comment about the elbow hyperextension and how it may look a lot worse than it is. Imagine of the elbow will tell everything). Bohanna had a bad game in my opinion, although he did almost make a play late in the game. I suspect he and Odighizuwa both need more experience to reach their true potential. Both of these guys are candidates to make huge leaps in year 2 but right now the DT position is seriously undertalented.

Micah Parsons is a football player and he makes plays. He is what we hoped Jaylon Smith would be. But for the rookies in general, we should not expect them to come in and dominate right away. There are little things about the NFL they need to learn to get comfortable.

None of the Cowboys 2nd roster receivers are showing me anything. I am disappointed in Simi Fehoko. He is not what I saw at the Stanford Pro day. I do not see any of these receivers to challenge the Cowboys top 5 receivers for a roster spot.

I can't wait to see the Cowboys 1st team offense on the field. I hope we don't have to wait until opening day against the Bucs. Dak needs to play withthe first team at least 1 or 2 series in one of these next 2 games.

I can't wait to see the Cowboys 1st team defense on the field either. I want to see Gregory and Lawrence lined up next to whoever the top 2 tackles are with Parsons behind them. I am also curious who the secondary will be.

I said I wouldn't comment on Connor Williams but it occurred to me I should. Connor Williams does not look like the answer at C yet. Farniok isn't either. If I had to choose 1, it would be Williams. Learning to make a proper snap seems easier than teaching Farniok to snap and get into blocking position faster. I think Farniok will be a sloid NFL guard someday, I am not sure about him playing Center.

I like Tyler Coyle in the draft. I like how he played last night too. He has speed to his game. I have no idea what happens to him with all the guys Dallas has at safety but I think if they keep him they won't be sorry. I want to see more of him the next 2 weeks.

I think Isaac Alarcon can play in the NFL. He needs experience and coaching but you can see he has the size and ability to play OG.

I really like Rico Dowdle but he cannot fumble that ball on that play.

The score doesn't bother me but I would have preferred to see some killer instincts at the end of the game. But we have to remember it is a bunch of guys just trying to make the team and many won't.

Overall, two preseason games in, I am not convinced this team is going to make it deep into the playoffs. The defense still bothers me, although I think Parsons will make a big difference in some aspects of the game.

Cox needs be starting over Jaylon. I dont think that will take very long to happen once the season starts.

Connor Williams is a joke at center. The was getting blown up into the backfield last night and couldnt even snap the ball. The experiment should be over.

Biadasz is a total stud. Looks like Frederick out there.

I like what I am seeing from Big Mike in the preseason.

It looks like the young players are hustling and actually playing like they give a scat!

It is a nice change from the Garrett years when they played a safety at QB for an entire half and nobody seemed to care what happened.

- i wasn't that in awe with Cox who got beat on a big pass by Card RB, and i'd have to see what LBs were responsible for not getting to the edges vs Card's easy walk in TD at goal line ...

- i have no idea what this OL coach is thinking of nowadays - did we draft Farniok. as an OG or cuz his abilities to play both OG and C ?
He took some OTAs (rookie?) reps as a center but come camp time, he hasn't even touch reps as a center - even Braylon Jones a guy that is not expected to
make 53 roster is getting reps at center while Farniok is exclusively an OG. And Isaac Alarcon has been outplaying Farniok.

- i thought the OL overall had a solid game , even Nooch had some time to survey and throw downfield
- too bad Nooch missed

- Keanu Neal is getting his groove on as a converted LB after struggling early in coverage at camp. Rip out a fumble vs Cards and we've
forced 2 fumbles on opponents first drives .

- Was our DEs that good vs Cards OL ? or because the Card's OT's were just that bad ? lets see Armstrong vs next upcoming OTs ?
Otherwise Armstrong feasted on these Cards backups from both sides ...

- We may have issues with our secondary - there's been some miscommunications still going on with proper signals, alignments.
Dunno if it's gonna be pointed at the safeties, per Domante Kazee or Donovan Wilson, but i heard it in camp, and i'm hearing it in these preseason games .

Expect Parson- LVE- Neal LB trio more so in 2021. ..

I thought the defense showed some nice improvement, as compared to their results with Pittsburgh. Our young LBs showed signs of development, as did Nahshon Wright. Kelvin Joseph had best take a turn for the better if he wants to keep Nahshon from stealing his job. o_O No more injuries, please!

I'm with ya Bullflop, all the way. Parsons is a given. Cox is also looking good, and Nashon Wright is coming on strong. For my money he had a better game than Joseph.

Totally agree. Our young players ARE hustling and looking better than last year's team did. Unfortunately some seem to be more concerned with MM's beltline than his performance.

I thought Cox had good coverage on that pass play. He just lost the football. Rookie mistake.

I am pretty sure Farniok did play some Center against the Cards. He did not look good to me. He looked slow getting out of his stance and into position to block. He was getting his arm up late. But I admit I only watched him a few plays.

i could be wrong, but i thought i saw far more of Braylon Jones than i did with a Farniok at center.

Cox will not start over Jaylon, not yet. He is not ready. Even the Dallas announcers made a comment about Cox, that he will develop into a very good player. But he is not there yet.

Now many think Jaylon is not there either. But he has been a very good player, maybe he van be again in this system I will wait and see, though not expecting a miracle. he does look slower, as he did last year.

Cox will get playing time this year, and probably in place of Jaylon. but not at 1st.
Look for him taking over next year if not by year end.

#62 Played LG.
#67 Played RT.

I think one if those is Braylon Jones.

Jones is #62. I only remembers seeing him at guard. Farniok played center and OT.

#67 Smith is strictly OT. I think a 3rd year player from Virginia. He is not good right now.

Seems to be some talent there with Jones. Definitely PS worthy. Could possibly push for a roster spot as backup if he improves in the next couple weeks.

Cox is inconsistent now but just a rookie. I'd say it's just a matter of time before he's comfy with Quinn's scheme.
I wouldn't be surprised if he's much improved by the time midseason comes around. He bears watching.

I never take too much out of pre season games. I tend to watch the rookies. I thought Cox and Parsons looked great. I think Parsons is going to be a player. For the short time he was in Collins looked good. Very happy to see him back. Connor W was noticeably terrible. Snaps and blocking. The guy looks lost. McGovern might have swiped his job. I like that Neal stripped the ball on that play. We haven’t seen a lot of that through the years. I wish they could just win one.

The passer and catcher of the only Cowboys TD should be cut. They suck and shouldn't be bailed out by that TD. I won't even speak their names.

Kelvin Joseph was a waste of a 2nd round draft pick. He's not a starting quality CB.

Nashon Wright has impressed me, not just during the Cardinals game but all through training camp and the Hall of Fame game.

Parsons might work out okay on this team. I like what I'm seeing from this kid. I think maybe he's going to earn that star... maybe.

I understand preseason football is what it is. It's not the product that's going to be on the field once we get serious and start trying to win games.

I've had enough preseason-style football. I'm praying the next preseason game is played like we are trying to win. I mean with starters in, full gameplay menu active, balls flying. Zeke doing his thing. I miss that.

He’s already better, but I agree it probably won’t happen yet. Let’s hope sooner than later.
