Thoughts on Cleveland's Pick

The more I think about it, the more convinced I am that Cleveland is headed for a 2-3 win season.

On that note, I believe the first four games should tell all.

They have Cinn, Pitt and Bal all at home and Oakland on the road.
So after four weeks, they will have played all their home division games and perhaps their easiest road game.

If they do no better than 1-3, they're headed for 3 wins and the first pick.

But here's the point of this thread.

1) Does Cleveland finish last?

2) Does Brian Brohm establish himself as a franchise QB?

3) Is there a potential blockbuster trade with perhaps Miami (likey to be drafting 2nd)? Something that still leaves us with Mcfadden.

4) What might that trade yield?

Too early to tell.

I am guarding myself from getting too giddy with what the pick could be.

I think the Buffalo pick jaded me so I don't want to ruin it with this one.

That was cruel and unsual punishment.
Buffalo starts 0-4 only to finish 9-7. OUCH!
They lost a couple of games they shoulda won in that 0-4 start.
They were never really that bad.

Whats funny is that if they had started 4-0, only to finish 9-7, we've been doing back flipps on this site.

Put your guard down. Speculate. It's June! What else we got to do?

Miami just spent a high 2nd round pick on what they believe is their QB of the future, John Beck.

Now if you want to talk about Atlanta that is something that brings more merit. Vick may be out, and BB's college coach is now the Atlanta head coach.

Excellent point. I was trying to establish who might be most likely to finish in the bottom five and in the market for a franchise QB.

How bout Minnesota?

What does that type of trade yield?

I actually am hoping that Romo proves to be the guy and that JuJo and Barber prove to be a highly productive duo...then you can have options...maybe we trade the Browns pick further into the future..or maybe you trade JuJo for a 2nd or Barber for a 3rd....or maybe you trade the Cowboy's #1 for Andre Johnson (I will not rest until we pry him away from the Texans...if they stink it up again and Schaub proves to be a bust, surely they will be more receptive to blowing up and starting over). But I would love nothing more than to have OUR own guys play well enough and we can then bring in a plethora of CBs and a bona fide #1 WR. That is how you keep this thing rolling when Owens and Glenn head for the rocking chair...which is sooner than most of us realize.

WR, CB, possibly LT could all be more of a need than RB.

QB, too....potentially.

Base it more on games 6-10 than how they start. Any way you slice it, it's too early to worry about.

It is very possible that McFadden won't go #1 overall. Things happen.

The scenerio that I think about is the Cowboys turning that Browns #1 into Steve Slaton and DeSean Jackson. Use Slaton in a Reggie Bush sort of role and watch defenses wet their pants as they worry about Jackson's speed.

But it is all a silly dream right now.

If Romo's passing promise comes true, then drafting a blue-chip WR would be a no-brainer, not only to assure Romo of a can't-miss target for years to come but to shore up a rapidly aging WR corps of T.O./Glenn.

OR EVEN BETTER:

Two WRs in the first round.

It is fun to think about. :)

I think there's a great chance they are the absolute worst team in football. I don't get all the people who say, "Look at all the talent they have"... I don't see it. They have no QB, a bad defense, a head coach on shaky ground, and a GM who seems to be wanting to push Quinn in to give the fans something to look forward to. It's a very bad combination for them.

As for the other bad teams, I actually think Kiffin might be such an improvement over the wretched coaching staff the Raiders had before that he might get a few wins out of them. And they have another very bad team in their division, KC.

In fact, I could see KC being one of those teams that finishes worse than the Cleveland pick and needs a QB. Is anyone sold on Croyle?

Anyway, back to Cleveland... I think their only chance is that Jamal Lewis somehow finds his old form and they are able to run him and protect their quarterback enough to squeak out a few close games. But Ozzie Newsome is pretty smart, so I doubt Lewis has much left in the tank.

For whatever it is worth -- the Brown's 2007 Schedule

Sep 9 - Pittsburgh
Sep 16 - Cincinnati
Sep 23 - @Oakland
Sep 30 - Baltimore
Oct 7 - @New England
Oct 14 - Miami
Week 7 - BYE
Oct 28 - @St. Louis
Nov 4 - Seattle
Nov 11 - @Pittsburgh
Nov 18 - @Baltimore
Nov 25 - Houston
Dec 2 - @Arizona
Dec 9 - @N.Y. Jets
Dec 16 - Buffalo
Dec 23 - @Cincinnati
Dec 30 - San Francisco

My take:

If things broke right for them, they could win 7 or 8 games.

If things broke wrong for them, they might win only 2 or 3.

I think they might have a decent chance to win in week 7. Other then that, I don't know........

Not to mention they are playing in a league in which each of the remaining teams are possible contenders for the superbowl. Baltimore has only gotten better, so I see at least 12 wins for them. Cincinnat should win at least 10 games if the rest of the Bengals can stay out of jail. The Steelers will be playing an easier 3rd place schedule, so I can see them winning 10 games as well. The Browns on the other hand could go 0-6 in the division again this year. Take a look at their schedule:

Pittsburgh
Cincinnati
at Oakland
Baltimore
at New England
Miami
at St. Louis
Seattle
at Pittsburgh
at Baltimore
Houston
at Arizona
at NY Jets
Buffalo
at Cincinnati
San Francisco

I know the games must be played on the field, but realistically, I can only see the Browns beating a few of those teams: Oakland, maybe Miami, and Houston. I will be generous and give them two more wins. At best, I see the Browns finishing 5-11. I would say that would still assure the Cowboys a top 5 pick. Going by this years draft, that would give the Cowboys pick 5 or 6.

Win? Na, I just don't see it. But I bet they don't lose.

Only the Bills and Raiders look to be as bad as them this year.

Crazy stuff happens, I know. But they Browns have an old, slow RB. Bad QB play, and maybe a hold out by their starting LT

And Wimbley sort of has a Ware thing going times 2. Only *** rusher on the team. Not that it slows him down, but still
