Thoughts on Fasano

I am a big Notre Dame fan, and was hoping for Stovall on the first day. I was suprised that we selected a TE, but absolutely loved the fact that the TE was Fasano. I watched this guy as closely as anyone last season and can tell you without a shade of a doubt that he can be every bit as good as Witten is. He is basically a Witten clone, a little smaller, but a bit more agile as well. Both are not the best blockers at the TE position, but will prove to be an excellent receiver as both of them improve in the blocking dept.

Some thought that maybe we didn't need a TE, but look at it like this, what happens is Witten goes down. We are left with one servicable TE who is new to the system in a system that is moving towards a TE based offense. That won't work. By drafting Fasano, not only does it give us another weapon at the TE position, it helps take some of the pressure off of Witten, gives Witten a break once in a while so he is not burnt out, and covers us either of our other TE's goes down for any length of time.

Add to that the fact that I am sure Charlie Wiess called Parcells and told him not to let this guy get by. Parcells trusts Weiss and why shouldn't he. Wiess is one of the best Coaches in the world, and a good friend of Parcells. He knows talent and would not steer us wrong.

It makes sense and I for on could not be happier with our draft thus far.

What's done is done. I'm not happy about the Fasano pick, but if he turns out to be what everyone says he is ... then heck, I can't complain. Nothing wrong with two top tier TE's.

I just hope OL doesn't turn into an issue while we send 2 TE's to the Pro Bowl.

I didn't like the pick initially because I was unaware that we were going to a 2TE set. Having that knowledge now, I like the pick.

Never doubted his talent, just questioned the need. In retrospect, it was a real good pick. All 3 picks were solid IMO.

I agree, but Jerry acted like it was in the plan to pick up another TE and it looks like their are some desent OL still left on the board. Maybe we have room to trade up with the extra 6 & 7.

I like the pick but I agree that the o-line will be under heavy scrutiny in the pre-season. Like it or not, the offensive line was the biggest problem going into FA and the draft and it should still be considered a huge question mark.

With Flo coming back and Rivera playing back into form I have no problem with the current state of the OL. Besides many forget that OL performance is predicated more on the unit and not necessarily individual talent although it doesn't hurt to have a stud or two. One more thing, how many rookie OL make a immediate contribution? The maturation process for an OL is way different then any other position, it often takes two to three seasons for them to reach their full potential.

I was surprised and not sure what to think at first of the Fasano pick. But now I like it. He's the kind of TE Parcells loves, and Parcells and Belecek always want 2 good TEs (Pats spent 2 1sts in 2 or 3 years on a TE with Graham and Watson).

The other thing to keep in mind is Fasano is going to be familiar with our offensive scheme already from Weiss. The Ticket aired the call from Jerry and Parcells to Fasano, and Parcells said that since Fasanop already is familiar with the offense it should give him a leg up.

I think alot of folksmay be missing the fact that the Cowboys are using H- back sets almost exclusively. In fact, Jerry Jones has said that he's "out of the FB game". When you think of TE, instead of thinking of JUST the classic TE duties, think H-back as well (maybe more). This guy will be used as such also and will not disappoint. He is a considerably better blocker than Witten and catches very well. Good pick..not popular or a big name, but very good.

AB, I have no reason to believe Rivera will be back to form. 33 year old OG's don't suddenly return to prime form.

I'm hoping Peterman surprises us. It's our last straw.

Yeah, Jerry said Fasano is not only familiar with playing the scheme we use, but also playing the "Rover" position, I believe.

What exactly is the Rover position? anything like an H-back?

The way Jerry was talking about Fasano last night, I expect him to see considerable playing time immediately. His learning curve should be really small.

I'm a diehard ND fan and I was shocked by this pick. We need OL picks. But on the other hand I'm pumped we got a ND guy.

After going through most of the videos, I can honestly say this is my favorite pick now. Didn't know what to think of the pick when it happen but now that I've seen him in action, I'd say he's easily the most solid player we've chosen this weekend without a doubt. It brings atleast some form of help to that Oline, something we've been blatenly ignoring up until this point. Even though it's on the "trickery" side of things as for oline-help is concerned, i'll live with it because it is something atleast. And I'm excited about this 2TE formation we plan on using with him and Witten. This smash-mouth passing attack is exactly what I've hoped for since the TO signing. Didn't give it much hope of happening when we opted for Terry over Keyshawn though.

Alright, maybe I'll accept him. But I'm gonna miss Lousaka Polite.
