Thoughts on Flo at RT

It was interesting to see Flozell Adams playing RT next to Larry Allen at RG, Gurode at C, and Walter Jones and Steve Hutchinson playing the left side. It was also interesting to note that most of the pressure on the NFC QBs, Romo in particular, came against the left side of the O-Line.

I though Adams did a great job at RT except for a couple of plays in a row where for some reason he just drove inside and completely ignored the DE coming from his right. In both plays the DE made a tackle behind the line. But other than that he pretty much stonewalled anyone he actually came up against. I think a couple of times a guy he was blocking got pressure on Romo from the back side of the pocket but that was because no one was open and Romo was holding the ball a long time.

Flo was a RT in college and was projected there in the NFL but we already had Erik Williams at RT when Flo was drafted and Tuinei had just retired at LT so we put him in at LT and he's been there ever since.

Part of the reason he was projected as a RT was because he is deaf in his right ear, making it difficult for him to hear the snap count when he is to the left of the QB.

I have always wondered why we didn't move him back to RT where he belongs and look to bring in a top LT. I guess because it is easier, and cheaper, to find a RT than a LT. Still, I believe he would be much more effective at RT than at LT and he showed it in the game last night.

There was something wrong with his hearing when he came into the NFL. The Cowboys found out he didnt have as good of an ability to hear from one ear and moved him to the side he could hear the snap count etc... better.

At least that was the story when he was drafted.

It was also interesting to see Jason Taylor blow by him when he 'forgot' to block his man. :)

Wasn't he responsible for Suggs crashing through the line resulting in a crushing tackle on Brees. Didn't Brees have to leave the game after that with a dislocated elbow?

I couldn't figure out what Flo was thinking on that play and the one just before it when the AFC stunted, which is against the rules, and DT Casey Hampton came past Adams who was looking inside for some reason.

Two plays in a row were he looked inside and let the outside guy come free. Mind boggling.

I would LOVE to see Flo at RT. He's totally deaf in his right ear so moving to the right-side would help him out in that respect. However, who would be our LT? McQuistan? Fabini? I'm weary of those options since Romo is still trying to settle in as full-time starter. Flo seems like our best option at LT right now.....

Nope he pushed his man passed Brees, It was Ruben Brown I believe that allowed Suggs through

The big question is the status of McQ. If he can play LT problem solved. If not, we would have to sign a free agent ($$$) or draft someone (not likely at 22) that can step in or possibly move Columbo (can he play LT?) to fill that spot.

Don't know Colombo's skills now since he hasn't played LT in the NFL at all, but at the time he was drafted back in 2002 his skill levels/talent were so high that he was projected to be able to play either OT position.

I think it was his right ear though -- he was drafted lower because teams thought he wouldn't be able to play on the left side. But it hasn't been a problem.

Did anyone notice that Flo started the game at RT? But when they showed the starters for offense and defense, he wasn't mentioned. Who was it that was supposed to start and why didn't they?

The named starters were Walter Jones, SEA and Chris Samuels, WAS with the backup of Jammal Brown, NO but he was hurt so Flo got the call.

Dont judge anything about a player from a Pro Bowl game. Good or bad.

Any football game you throw together in under a week, with a bunch of random players, is nothing more than a game for fun.

Why would we worry about moving Flo to RT when Colombo just had a great season there?

There is no way they move Flo to RT with his LT salary and end up paying another LT big money unless Flo takes a pay cut.

he signed a big contract, what 3 years ago? With the cap increases, his contract is not that huge any more.

Actually, if I'm reading it right his salary has increased each year since 2004. More of a question for Adam.

Despite that he is still getting paid LT money. It would be awful hard to justify spening that much money on a RT who is still getting paid LT money and then dishing out the big bucks for another LT. It's awful lot of cap space tied up into 2 positions on the OL no matter what the increase.
