Thoughts on OLB

Here's a thought, how about moving Ware to the left side and letting Burnett slip into Ware's spot on the right. I know you would like to have your speed rusher on the blind side of the QB but how many times have we seen Ware just a second too late. Here's my rationale, if the QB doesn't see Ware coming from the blindside and Ware doesn't get there in time then the QB may not feel pressured or hurried. On the other hand, if Ware is on the left side, he may pressure the QB into making mistakes even though he may not necessarily make a sack. This also keeps Burnett on the side where he has been backing up Ware since last season.

Any thoughts?

They probably will run that lineup a few times in the game and the rest of the season.

1. I don't think they'll do it. They may do it some, but they won't permanently make Ware the SOLB and Burnett the WOLB.

2. I think it is really a pretty good idea. Burnett is the most athletic LB we have and may be the most athletic defender we have except for Newman and maybe A. Glenn. Kevin just moves so fluidly and being an ex-safety, his coverage is excellent for the LB spot.

I remember seeing Burnett in the preseason come after the QB. He was at the line of scrimmage, but when he finally decided to go after the QB... BOOM, he was right in his face. He has exceptional burst and explosion and I think he'd do a heck of a job getting after the passer.

I like your idea and hope that they do it... although I don't think they will.

Did Bill move LT around?

No, but he had Carl Banks and Harry Carson to help with the pass rush - he wasn't stuck with only one guy.

I think with Ellis out, Ware will move all around which opens up Burnett to play WOLB and Carpenter for SOLB at times depending on Ware is.

Keep em fresh

What was the opinion where you originally read about this? Somewhere on dc.com I think.

Also had Leonard Marshall, Erik Howard, Jim Burt, Gary Reasons and Pepper Johnson.

Taylor sometimes came up the middle, but I think that still originated from his normal OLB spot.

I suppose I can't say they never moved him, but my recollection is that his damage was done from the same LOLB the vast majority of the time.

As someone else pointed out, I shorted the Giants on all the additional defensive help they had in those days - I only mentioned Banks and Carson when they had a number of other great defenders and strong pass rushers. They didn't need to move Taylor around and hide him - if teams concentrated too much on him they doomed themselves to getting beat by others.

I agree with Stautner. LT didn't move around much... Because he didn't have to. He could and did whip every left tackle he had to face.

This is a good idea, however, I want to move Ware around diffent spots in the line......depending on the offensive formation, let Ware pick his spots

Let Ware pick his spots to move around the line? How does that work? Does he just abandon his assigned post without warning, leaving a hole in the defense no one is prepared to fill?

This is all great in theory but you have to remember that if Ware moves around, somebody has to cover his position. If Ware moves from WOLB to an inside LB position, that LB has to then cover another position. Maybe two LBs rotate. This is the real problem with trying to let Ware pick his spots.
