Thoughts/Opinions about last night's loss - a year away?

I’m not opposed to getting rid of Eberflus. But this defense needs a lot more than a new DC.
We need to use most if not all of our resources this offseason rebuilding the defense. But again, if we are going to play a soft zone, 10 yards off the LOS 90 percent of the time and buy in to his scheme that has been an absolute disaster it doesn’t matter who we get to play.

Jerry has already hinted that he isn’t going to make a change at the defensive coordinator job. If that’s so then next year won’t be much better on that side of the ball.

Bottom line is , GOff had way too much time to pick his passes and receivers to get open.

I think our current DC is very hit or miss, does not adjust well and needs to be replaced before we will have a chance currently, as well as needing a few more pieces to our D

He is far from a jag, Campbell went out of his way talking him up prior to the game.
He has been on the team all year. I don’t see him doing anything special. We need his money. Campbell ran the ball right at him for 44 points. I want that cap space.

Jerry loves this attitude...

Sells merch, tickets, hopes, and dreams...

He's got a really big boat to prove it.
Yea we've been a year away now....for like 30 years.....falls right into Jerry's lap....easy money...thats all he is worried about....he even stated it " just trying to stay relevant".......

The countdown is on folks, four more games and no more ..

Eberflus
Steele
Wilson
Hooker
Sorenson

From what I have seen most of this year, way more than a year away

1) Dallas currently sits 47 million over the cap next year and yes I know some money can be freed up but still they sit dead last in cap space for next year.

2) Despite 2 1st round picks, both of which will probably be in the latter half of the 1st round. They have no 2nd or 3rd round picks.

3) The secondary, LB's and Offensive Line all look like they need help, and despite his disappearing act last night the offense could take a step back if they can't resign Pickens and don't forget Javonte Williams will also be a UFA next year.

4) Terrible DC that both both Dumb and Dumber seem to be intent on keeping around.

5) Dallas are still, for the most part, bargain bin shoppers in free agency.

6) Most importantly, if Jerry is still around it will just be more of the same.
Geez,
When you spell out truthful reality like this it could lead some like me to depression.

Oh well, no worries as I've already been in a 30 year fan depression anyways.

Nothing new.

Thank you for a sane analysis. We shot ourselves to death with stupid penalties and giving up enormous yardage on kick returns. For whatever reason, Eberflus decided not to keep the pressure dialed up that he used to start the game. I can't for the life of me understand that.

We failed to control the line of scrimmage, and Dak was sacked five times. He was under pressure constantly.
The team has improved, but still has to learn what it takes to win these games. Have to clean up their own mistakes and upgrade the talent at some positions.

Well, until we get a GM that can make a positive difference, we will just hang around the rim and be relevant.
Wait, isn't that our GM's stated goal ?
To be fair, he did try to improve this team at the deadline. Being out of the playoff again might make them forced to do something to be relevant again. Team isn't that far, but cannot stay pat and regress.

Really Gibbs had 40 yards on the ground. Mont had 60, with 1 long run. They didn't lose cause of their run defense last night.

There are too many holes to fix in one offseason, even being aggressive in FA. They can improve to being a playoff team but it is probably another first round exit. Coaching is a different issue in itself. Getting two legit linebackers, an Edge and decapitating the secondary is a must.

When the Lions wanted to run the ball they scored 4 touchdowns right up the gut. The irony is we really would have been better off off with Micah out there.

I just think he is a JAG. We need his money to bring in some “dogs”. He has been average at best for us. We still couldn’t stop the run or rush the passer with Clark on the field. Still had a record breaking bad defense. Don’t get me wrong he is solid but we need studs who get his salary slot not average pay. We just paid two average players in Bland/Ferguson. We don’t need to make the same mistake over and over again.
I would trade him.

He’s due 40M over 2026-27.

This is one of Jerry’s best opportunities to go all in.
I guess we shall see.

My thoughts if anyone cares...I was watching Get Up! in the morning and listening to the guy from Draftkings stating the betting line opened at Det.-5!! As soon as I heard that I knew we were in trouble. What on earth did Vegas know that we didn't? We were underdogs getting 3pts. at home the last 2 weeks against 2 SB teams and beat them outright and then we open as +5?? Did we have an off week of practice? I mean no one was injured from last week except for Guyton who sat out last week. Did the coaches just mail it in? I don't get it. It was just too much to ask I guess.

Im aware that there's been some crazy forum member here that keeps posting "2026"whenever there's talk of this years playoffs.

Ive called him a hater and not a true fan but I've got to apologize to him because it seems that he's 100% correct.

My apologies my guy......

Offense

-another slow start finally caught up to them. You cannot spot a good team a huge lead and expect to come all the way back.
-Very strange game from George Pickens, he seemed out of it all night, looked like he was playing half speed
-Rough night for Ferguson, fumble, huge penalty and that terrible call against him late
-Both Tackles had their struggles in pass protection, also Williams misses some blocks

Defense

-we all saw the stats, when they blitzed they generated pressure, when they didn't they struggled. As I said in the lead up, if you don't move Goff off the spot, he can kill you, which he did. Eberflus has been stubborn all yr not blitzing enough. It is obvious, they need more pass rush off the edge, but the DC has to generate pressure if it isn't working.
-Really struggled covering Gibbs as a receiver, he is a tough matchup where they just don't have the personnel the matchup.
-Goff was having a field day, with those quick, underneath passes without much resistance.
-Both our starting corners had their struggles. Not worried so much about Revel as he is still very green, especially in zone coverage, but Bland continues to have up and down play.
-Why was Bell covering Williams late in the game, why was Bridges doing the same? What is the love affair with Murray playing so many snaps?
-In my opinion, don't think Eberflus is the right DC to move forward with, but fear they are going to stay with him for continuity.
-This game finally exposed the defensive weaknesses that they have to address: Edge, LB and Safety. Bland also needs to play more consistent.

Special Teams

-Both kickoff and punt coverage was terrible, gave up huge field position every time. Giving a good offense a short field is a recipe for disaster.
-63 yard FG is unreal, he and the Jaguars kicker are on another level

I am not so upset at the loss as I kind of felt that this team is 1 good offseason away from truly competing. They have clear holes to address personnel wise and have to figure out some things schematically. Why do they struggle so much with the scripted plays to start the game? Eberflus doesn't have the Tampa Bay front where you can rush four and expect to get consistent pressure. Will he be replaced? Will Jerry open up his wallet and actually sign an impact fa starter or two? Is the franchise tag coming for Pickens?
The team was physically spent, and it showed. And we still put up 30 points,
