Why do we care about Geoff Swaim so much? Honestly, does his family have connections with Jones or Garrett? He was a 7th rounder and there is nothing that special about him. He's not that big, not that athletic, and he's pretty slow when you compare him to this generation of NFL tight ends. Add that to how we saw him try to catch this week, and it just doesn't make sense. Don't tell me he's supposed to just be a blocking TE. If so, we should be able to find 100 other guys out there who are better. I hope he's not one of those guys who sticks around a few years just so the FO can try to prove a point.

Let's say DP continues to progress at this pace and truly becomes the guy who we know will replace Romo. How long will he watch and learn from Tony before he's really ready? From what you guys have learned or know, is he humble and teachable, and will he be the patient protege' type? In my perfect dream type scenario, Tony will stay mostly healthy for two more seasons and then turn it over. I don't really want to have a guy with a "back" history, who's pushing 40, sticking around just because. I want Tony to win a Superbowl, and then become become Yoda or Mr. Miyagi to Dak. If he doesn't win one in two years, I think it's realistic to say it will be time to hang them up.

Besides Swaim, there are a few guys I'm ready to see either step up or get out, and I'm not talking about giving them a long time to do it. Even if they are just guys who are for depth, they must contribute and not just waste a roster spot. Street, Green, Gachkar, and Wilcox should all be on very shaky ground.

Again, I know it's only week one, but I saw a couple things that were the typical way of the Cowboys for the last few years. Things I wish would go away forever. Tackling, Penalties, blown assignments, are all things we must get better at. Will we ever get a good consistent pass rush? At this point, I don't care what we have to do to get it, this needs to be the number ONE priority every day for the rest of the season. WHATEVER IT TAKES to make it happen, needs to happen. I feel this offense can be special. I feel our DB's can handle things if they get some help from the front seven. I feel we are set at two of the LB spots, (at least for half the year LOL)....BUT, who will turn this DL and the the other LB spots around? Next, I've came to the conclusion that JG teams just aren't' disciplined. We don't need to be included in the conversation of penalty leaders in the NFL. We don't need to consistently make boneheaded plays. I really like 70% of our roster and the talent we have. If we can be a smart team, that other 30% can be made a non-factor....

Typical negativity from you. There were many, many positive things to take away from the game yet you focus all on the negatives.

Interesting post.
Swaim........I think if JG likes a guy, and he is puppy dog rkg they can hang around a good while without showing much.
He had 2 drops in this game that were pretty bad, maybe he was nervous, as was the andy guy who caught everything in practice,
but then drops them in this game with 90,000 watching.

Chaz green , looks like a waste of a 3rd round pick ?
Street....... at least he caught one or 2 and one was a good 3rd down catch.
If dallas drafts a player round 3 and up, they are very slow to give up on them, Claiborne is a good example, street is another.

As for penaltys etc, I thought dallas looked pretty good for a ps game 1.

Overall I was pleased with what I saw, but agree, that some of these guys need to show something in the next 3 games or be gone.

Street, green, Gachkar, and Wilcox are bubble guys. I think street should be definitely gone. Also agree that we are set at two of the three lb positions and would like to see a " bigger" mlb, preferably in the 245-255lb range. I'm always concerned with the DE position as well, and hopefully mayowa and tapper can show us something that Russell and Irving hasn't- I'm not sold but willing to wait at least 2-3 more preseason games. Overall there where a lot of good things that we saw from the Cowboys first game esp with special teams and the offense.

Swaim has been a favorite target of every QB that has thrown with him in the game so far this year. When multiple QBs trust him that speaks to me. He dropped those balls but Dak kept going to him. Now of course Romo needs to trust him and he needs to get PT but for now he is an intriguing prospect to me.

Me too. He came out of Texas supposedly as a blocker and has shown in practice to be one of those rare TE's who can get downfield and stretch the middle. He dropped two screens looking to run before he had the ball, which he needs to clean up, and made one really good snag downfield in traffic. I think he actually has great hands. He gets a pass from me.

What the FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAK? Leave your reality tv drama post at the curb. Swaim needs to be cut immediately and then flogged soon after that.

Other than all that, I agree with ya. Those drops might serve Swaim well.

WHAT THE FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK are you talking about? How about you answer the football related questions and leave the reality tv drama somewhere else!!! Oh wait. NM,

Essentially, if you want the AmberBeer seal of approval your post had to read like this:

Why do we care about Geoff Swaim so much? Because he's freaking awesome, that's why! He was a 7th rounder and is likely one of the biggest steals of this decade. He's not that big, not that athletic, and he's pretty slow when you compare him to Usain Bolt, but other than that he's a freak at TE. Don't tell me he's supposed to just be a blocking TE because he's so much more than that. Shoot, give him a week in a lab and he'll probably come up with a cure for the ZIKA virus. I hope he's one of those guys who sticks around a few years just so the FO can try to prove a point, because that would be totally awesome.

Let's say DP continues to progress at this pace and truly becomes the guy who we know will replace Romo. How long before the NFL re-writes the Hall of Fame rules and inducts him in the next couple of years? In my perfect dream type scenario, Tony will stay mostly healthy for two more seasons, win 5 SBs because he's that good, and then turn it over to Prescott, who likely will win the next 5 SBs himself. I want Tony to win Superbowls, and then become become Yoda or Mr. Miyagi to Dak. If he doesn't win one in two years, then I am pretty sure the NFL league office has thrown games to prevent him from winning.

Besides Swaim, there are a few guys I expect will step up. Even if they are just guys who are for depth, they must contribute and not just waste a roster spot. Street, Green, Gachkar, and Wilcox all were sandbagging the competition Saturday night and are great players for us down the road.

Again, I know it's only week one, but I saw a couple things that were the typical way of the Cowboys for the last few years. Things I wish could continue forever. Garrett handclapping, Irvin pressing the flesh with Jerry, Marinelli looking focused on the sidelines. Will we ever not get a good consistent pass rush now with the guys we saw two nights ago? At this point, I think we might need to tone down the pass rush because it's a clear unfair advantage for us. I feel this offense can be special. I feel our DB's can handle things whether they get help from the front seven or not (which it's impossible to not get help from this ridiculously talented front). I feel we are set at two of the LB spots with hall of famers and the other guy is just short of being Hall of Fame worthy. Next, I've came to the conclusion that JG teams just aren't' disciplined........... they are a military precise machine! It doesn't matter if we are included in the conversation of penalty leaders in the NFL. We are that good. Penalties will only prevent us from winning by 20 instead of 40. We need to consistently make boneheaded plays because, truthfully, the games would get boring with us just throttling teams week after week. I really like 170% of our roster and the talent we have.

Everyone gets a pass on game #1. Let's see how they clean it up this Friday on game #2.

Heck, I'll even give Wilcox another chance, though during the game I said he needs to be gone.
As Jason says, they will take a look at the "tape" and go from there.

So now we will see if any player learned from that. If we see the same stuff, then yes, time to get out the CZ scissors. Though they are not the official roster trimming scissors...
