No audio to link, no recap to give, just something that stuck out. Tim Brown was on with BaD radio and was talking about Romo, and commented that he felt that because Romo isn't as big as some other QBs, that the hits he takes early really take their toll on him late in the season. Said QBs like Aikman can survive better because of their size. Watching Romo, he thinks his play really suffers because he just doesn't have the size to take a season of pounding, and he thinks that was a big factor in Romo's reduced performance late in the season.

Just a little chum for the water.

Actually, I don't that Brown's right, but it is a valid criticism of Romo: he is somewhat slight for a QB. It wasn't the problem this year, I don't think. I think Romo's hand was never quite right because he sure didn't have any touch on the intermediate routes like he used to. In '07 he could drop a ball between the levels like nobody I ever remember seeing. It got to where you expected the team to convert on 3rd and 10. In '08, those passes were sailing over wide open receivers who'd gotten behind the coverage.

He's bigger than Joe Montana.

Next question.

True.

But that doesn't necessarily mean he can sustain those hits as well. Emmitt wasn't all that big. He stayed healthy. Also, I'm thinking the defenders in Romo's era are bigger than in Montana's.

Or maybe Brown's insinuating that the 49ers did a better job in protecting Montana than we've done with Romo?

The thing is... there really is no way to know one way or another. Its just speculation. Maybe bad speculation, too. But its plausible.

It is plausible that Romo can't take hits like an Aikman or Bledsoe, yes. But is Romo big enough to win? Sure, without a doubt.

If you don't like Montana, then Kurt Warner is 6-2, 218. Tony Romo is 6-2, 224. How's Warner done?

You don't want your QB getting hit all the time, no matter how big he is. That's why most OCs get that you have to run the ball enough to limit his exposure and call plays that get the ball out of his hands quickly.

I have no doubt that Tony got hit way too much, way too hard, and way too often this year. I don't think he was healthy at the end of the season either, and that hurt.

But I don't think his size had much to do with it. The guy just took a beating this year. That would have hurt a lot of QBs, even the biggest ones.

Beat me to it plus Warner has some age...

I think Brown is right on the mark with this. I completely agree. I think Romo is smallish and seems like a good hit will injury him. You see guys like Eli who can take hit after hit and never effects them. I know some stat person will come out and show the size of each QB and Romo is right in the middle of the pack. But i think Romo is built differently. Also maybe because Romo is limber and has excape ability he puts himself in odd positions contorting his body to get away. Either way, i think it is an excuse for his poor play, unless his eyes were injured and couldnt see triple man coverage.

If anyone needs to focus, it's Romo!

Grow up and realize just what you have, what you are doing! If he learns that, then the Cowboys will go forward.

Get real!

Romo!

Romo stopped running when it was there.... therefore he took more shots this year.

Plain and simple. Defense ALWAYS know where to find him now. Go ahead Tom... err.. I mean Tony

what hasnt been added from that tim brown conversation is that Brown said what many of us said all summer.

The talent on the team is way overated. He said outside of ware he doesnt see anything that good on defense, he then added james had a great season. How he minimizes ratliff I have no idea.

He said we have nothing in the secondary worth keeping and we could upgrade at every position. He said the same about spears and canty, called them nice players but nothing special.

He then blamed the cowboys hype machine for over rating the talent on the team overall and when expectations are that high no one can achieve it, let alone a team with average talent.

Hopefully Scandrick and Jenkins are the upgrades at CB we need, then.

It'd be interesting to read what GMs think about guys like Ratliff and Newman and a few others many of us deem elite.
