Still sounds irresponsible to me. Honda like we'd probably be cutting some good players at other positions just to carry these added DEs

We are contending for a championship, keeping good players is good idea but finding a great player(s) is more important. We need a double digit sack threat to take the next step.

We had zero edge rushers last season, so the more the better. Mayowa, Lawrence, etc. need to all be pushed. Gregory and Tapper cannot be counted on in 2017.

Well, that's a given.

I could see two max being drafted, and that's if someone high on their board drops in day 3.

We still have Irving, Lawerence, Tapper, Mayowa, Crawford etc under contract for next year.

Mayowa is a one trick pony, but for depth isn't bad. Irving flashes potential, just needs consistency. Tapper is a wildcard with his injury, but scored high on the SPARQ, something they value. Up to him and Rod to maximize his talents.

I'd settle for 3 pass rushers, not necessarily 3 EDGE players. Irving is a DT while Lawrence, Tapper and Crawford are re-injuries waiting to happen. Lawrence and Tapper are playing a high collision position with bad backs, not a good indicator of success. And Mayowa is a journeyman.

I think Irving can develop into a very solid SDE. Marinelli just needs to commit Irving to SDE so he can develop at the spot all through training camp and pre season. I know his dominate performance this year came against a backup RT but with more snaps he started to do more and more damage. I don't think he will ever be a double digit sack artist but i can see him constantly being a 7 or 8 sack a year guy while doing great in the run defense.

i agree we need a few pass rushers and not necessarily edge rushers. A weakside edge, either a rotational speed rusher or a very disruptive DT to develop to play next to Collins long term, and i would have to say may be a good idea to get a 3-4 OLB who is a little undersized to be a 3 down player and develop him to be our SLB who can play with his hand in the dirt a few plays a game as well as be a big time blitzer for us.

Exactly! Been advocating for one of these players every draft. Takk McKinley (although he has frame to grow into a true 4-3 RDE) or Hassan Riddick. Big fan of Tarrell Basham too. Give me one of those guys in this draft.

They didn't draft Moss cause Irvin is the GOAT and they didn't need Moss haha

Irvin actually lobbied hard for Moss. Don't think Irvin ever did that for a WR while he was still playing. He even apologized when Cowboys failed to draft Moss, saying fault was due to his off field shenanigans. I blame Gailey.

Their are some mid round and late round guys that can be had at SLB. One I'm big on is Tyus Bowser out of Houston. Can rush with both hand in the dirt and standing up. Has the ability to drop into coverage and hold his own.has a 6th round grade because of a off field incident. But I wouldn't mind getting our RDE, pass rushing SLB, and Pass rushing DT one right after another with our 1st 2nd and 3rd round pick. I can deal with another year of Mo and Carr at CB if we can get a big boost of pass rush talent to develop.

Having talent evaluators that can differentiate between which character issue guys will work out and which won't is a huge asset.

Jimmy seemed to have a feel for knowing that he could work with guys like Charles Haley but also avoided some other character issue players.

In recent years the Cowboys drafted Randy Gregory but appear to have taken Noah Spence off their board the following year. It seems like they had that backwards. Spence had stayed clean for a significant period of time while Gregory failed at the combine.
