I agree at the beginning of the season, rookie edge rushers not named Bosa have a learning curve, but if we do sniff the playoffs I would hope by the end of the year he would have acclimated somewhat to the NFL. With some good coaching he could be getting some pressures and maybe some sacks. A lot of rookie edge rushers have done that. At the end of each season Jimmy used to like to say there are no rookies.

That's a lot of hope.

It would be a really questionable move to pass on Kinlaw (or Lamb) for Gross-Matos.

Any edge rusher after Young is going to have question marks and they increase the later you pick one. There is hope with Kinlaw also, his tendonitis in his knees and his consistency given his physical traits which also indicates a learning curve. NFL.com is pretty accurate with it's top 50 rankings and grades and they have Kinlaw ranked 15th and a 6.7 grade and Gros-Matos ranked 19th and 6.5. I would be good with either pick. Edge rushers are harder to replace in free agency. Look how easily we signed McCoy and how much Quinn signed for. The 49s just traded Buckner and I think the Chiefs either traded or are looking to trade Jones.

Javon Kinlaw
Overview
For a player with so many elite physical traits, Kinlaw's tape was much more inconsistent than expected
. He had moments where he was able to use his size, length and power to overwhelm opponents, but poor pad level and an inability to harness his energy coming off the snap led to body control and balance issues that prevented him from reaching his full potential. He can be a disruptive force along the interior with that explosive first step and freaky physical gifts, but utilizing his heavy hands and plus length as a read-and-react 3-4 end might allow for improved technique, control and consistency. No matter the front, Kinlaw's traits and potential could make him a solid starter early in his career.

Kinlaw and Lamb are better prospects.

You could also sign Griffen right now at DE and he'd be better than Gross Matos. Taking that kid at 17 is reaching for a need given other names on the board. That's repeating the Charlton AND Trysten Hill mistakes where we forced a pick for need.

Scrolling down the list I was thinking “what’s going on here”, but then I realized OP is the guy that freaks out over combine testing every single year

Lamb would be a good pick and it would be hard to pass him up. Like I said I would be good with either pick but also like I said Kinlaw has risks too. Griffen is also a head case and expensive. I also didn't state the rankings correctly Gros-Matos is ranked 17th and Kinlaw is ranked 16th. Lamb is ranked 9th and would probably be my pick. He would almost definitely upgrade the offense in his first year. Getting a pick ranked 8 picks higher is like getting an extra pick if you had to trade up to nine it would be expensive.
