after feeling embarrassed for the Cowboys defensive players last night, I started to look at few DT Dallas could bring in that could upgrade that unit.

I still think Dallas needs to draft atleast 2 DL in first 5 rounds of draft. Then sign atleast one of these guys:

this is in no order:

1. Paul Soliai DT from Miami (age 29). With Randy Starks having his best year, Miami might need to franchise him leaving Soliai to be signed. Just like Dallas, miami switched from 3-4 to 4-3 and Soliai play didn't decline. Perfect wide body with surprising athleticism they are looking for.

2. Arthur Jones DT from Baltimore (age 27). Plays in 3-4 but is athletic enough to play DT in 4-3. Big nasty DL that would add toughness and athleticism. His stock is rising.

3. Michael Bennett DT from Seattle (age 28). He would be good 3-technique tackle in this system. He was productive in similar defense while playing in Tampa before signing with Seattle.

I would seriously consider using every draft pick on a defensive lineman. Then, I'd try to make a few trades for picks, and select some more defensive lineman.

Just think, if we draft 12 defensive lineman, 1 or 2 would have to stick, right?

It's difficult to believe that we'll still have the same scheme after it's been so bad, so it's hard to project what kind of guys we should be looking for.

But I'd start with Melton: 6'3" 295 lbs, just turned 27 in October. Have a feeling we can't afford him though.

Michael Bennett has been a DE in both Seattle and Tampa. He would be a good option at DE with the Cowboys. He will be looking for a starting job because the starters are entrenched in Seattle.

Paul Soliai is not a great fit if the Kiffin/Marinelli scheme stays. He has 5.5 sacks in a 7 year career. He might be able to be ok in the scheme, but he will be more valuable to team that uses a different scheme. Also, I remember Phil Costa having his best game against Soliai which is not a good sign.

Arthur Jones is an interested free agent. He is built more like a 4-3 DT (1-tech) than a 3-4 DE. He has 4 sacks on the season which is decent for a 3-4 DE.

Wrong.

They can easily create cap space in 2014 by restructuring. How much they do that is more dependent on the effect on the years after 2014, but they can definitely create space in 2014 if they choose to do it.

Keep In mind that we have to restructure/release 32.5 million just to break even.

Can they do all this? Probably, but at the expense of leveraging future years. Now ask yourself if its worth it with this group of players?

I would cut Ware and Austin and not re-sign Hatcher; otherwise, I would go all in on acquiring younger free agents.

There is no reason not to try to win now considering that cutting Romo is basically impossible. They can worry about the cap when Romo is gone.

The key, IMO, is not to sign, re-sign, or retain older players unless it can be done at a low cost.
